The problem is that the crowd is so tied up in getting their “WHATS” in that they no longer listen to your promo. Further more they are having so much fun doing it that it’s near impossible to get any heat. My promo took twice as long and got half the heat. It was one of the most frustrating things I’ve ever experienced in the ring. It takes you forever to get to the point because every time you pause the crowd chimes in with “WHAT” and even when you get to the point very few people listened to it and thus actually got it.

When I got to the back, after the match, I mentioned my dilemma to Jericho who echoed my sentiment. He agreed that we are all pretty much screwed doing promos for the next 6 month to a year, depending on how long “WHAT” stays over. I guess the only hope we have is that if there is a really important promo to cut, they make sure to send Austin out before it to try and let the crowd get it out of their system. Even that likely won’t work, because “WHAT” is so over the crowd seems able to do it all night.

It’s amazing how things take off and develop a life of their own. I still don’t understand why the Worm, or the people’s elbow are as over as they are, and while I’ve always found Austin’s “WHATS” to be funny, I never would have guessed it would have gotten this over. I’m still not sure whether “WHAT” is too over or not, but it’s definitely as close as you can get. Maybe I’ll be lucky enough (or talented enough for that matter) someday to have the problem of worrying about something, I do, being too over.
