In his latest injury report, Good Ol' JR said:
quote:

With the talents on the primary roster and those in OVW and HWA, the cruiserweight roster has never been stronger. With a few more key additions, this branch of our talent roster will be awesome.
My response: who the fuck do you think you're fooling?

It seems like every other Ross Report has a comment about building a strong cruiser division, but nothing ever comes of it, because Vince still has his retarded belief that bigger=better. When WCW was at its peak, the cruiserweights were the highlight of the show, with guys like Rey Jr., Eddy, Jericho, Benoit, Malenko. But when WWF tries doing something with the smaller guys, we get champion X-Pac, and guys like Grandmasta Sexay, Scott Taylor, and Crash Holly. Or when they put the belt on someone decent (Tajiri), they job him to Test and Undertaker. I just think it's unfair to the workers, and to the fans who have little or no other option when it comes to wrestling.

But, the talent IS there. How's this for a kickass cruiser division?

Taka Michinoku
Shoichi Funaki
Yoshihiro Tajiri
Kaz Hayashi
Super Crazy
Rey Misterio, Jr.
Psychosis
Juventud Guerrera
Jerry Lynn
Shane Helms
Shannon Moore
Matt Hardy
Jeff Hardy
Spike Dudley
Christian
Low Ki
Christopher Daniels
Chavo Guerrero, Jr.
Billy Kidman
Dean Malenko

That's 20 guys right there, that are either under WWF contract, or could be signed very easily. And there's plenty more out there. If they keep the divisions separate, don't job the cruisers to heavyweights, put on one or two matches to open Raw and Smackdown, keep storylines to a minimum and let the wrestling speak for itself, the division could be a huge success. But if they keep pushing slugs like X-Pac and Scott Taylor, it would never really take off, and Vince would be able to smile proudly and say, "See, told you nobody likes the little guys. Get Billy Gunn out there!."

I don't know, what do you guys think? Can it be done, will it be done, or is JR just talking out of his ass again?

Also, on an unrelated note, check out Tom Zenk's latest commentary from WrestlingObserver.com HERE. The guy speaks his mind, and you gotta respect him for that.

Well, if they have the talent (which they do), they should forget about the tag team division. You can still have tag team matches, but why focus your time fighting for a title. Just use the tag team fights as grudge matches to set up a new angle, or continue an old one. Then, you can use that extra time and energy in the creative team to focus on the crusierweight division.

It can be successful, but probably wont happen any time soon. Maybe Bischoff wasnt so bad after all when he said tag team wrestling is a waste of time...because it really is if you think about it.

So I guess the WWF changed the Lightheavyweight Div. into the Cruiserweight, it's still the same idea though, the WWF has talent, I want to see Tajiri defend his belt more on TV and give those 19 guys a chance. I saw Lo Ki in action, I was impressed with his match. There's definetly talent there, they should take this division more seriously, PPV's perhaps?

Fuck the Islanders and the Rangers! Go Penguins!

An all-cruiserweight PPV? That would SO rock the world!

Nah, no way. In the 80's, tag team wrestling was so great because you had teams like the Rock n Roll Express, Midnight Express, Road Warriors, Demolition, Killer Bees, British Bulldogs, etc. All had well developed characters and, for the most part, stuck to tag-team matches. These days, it seems like besides the Dudleys, and possibly the Hardys, very few teams stay together more than a few months and they wrestle in singles matches more than they tag up, thus then giving the audience no reason to care about the team. They have plenty of talent to revive the tag division in addition to building a cruser division, I think. How about this:

Bring back O'Hare, and team him with Test. Two big young guys who can work well enough in the ring but never found their niche as singles wrestlers.

Bring back Raven and Saturn as a team. They work well together, and were pretty damn over as a team in WCW.

Nix the Tazz/Spike team, sent Spike to the cruiser division, and team Tazz with Rob Van Dam. Tazz could cover for RVD's weak promos and their styles would compliment each other, with Tazz' suplexes and submissions, and RVD's aerial attack. Van Dam will be a huge singles star someday, but no need to rush it. Let his overness and charisma get the fans into the tag division for now.

Team Lance Storm up with Justin Credible, and reform the Impact Players. Nuff said.

You could also bring back Val Venis (minus the porn gimmick, and perhaps a name change), and team him with a returning D-Lo Brown. Two good workers who have gotten over with the crowd in the past.

There's five teams right there, with room for plenty more, and this wouldn't have much effect on the singles division. With so much talent under contract, it's amazing that they don't focus more on tag team wrestling, which gives more guys the opportunity to be seen.

not a bad idea sir o...but do the casual fans really want to see that? i think they are more concerned with seeing the rock 4 times a night, and scsa and hhh 4 times also...not to take it away from those guys, but that is what is hurting hte wwf more so than the writing...the same guys are on tv for over 30 minutes each night, two times a week...it gives no other guys a chance to be seen.

Sounds familiar, is that WCW did towards the end.....
