BRET HART TO 'CONTACT' OWEN AND HELEN HART ON ABC SPECIAL

by Buck Woodward Updated: 4/9/2002 11:02:43 PM

This is not a joke.

Bret Hart will appear on the ABC special "Contact: Talking to the Dead" and, with the help of spirit medium George Anderson, will "communicate" with his deceased mother, Helen Hart, and his late brother, Owen.

Helen passed away on November 4, 2001 after a long battle following a seizure in September of that year.

Owen tragically died after accidentally falling from the rafters of the Kemper Arena in Kansas City during a WWF Pay-per-view on May 23, 1999 as he was preparing for a "Blue Blazer" entrance on a cable.

"Contact: Talking to the Dead" airs at 10 p.m. on Monday, April 22 on ABC.

I [sarcasm] think [/sarcasm] his refusal to work with Vince is personal, and has nothing to do with it being beneath him or anything.

HOLY CHRIST! Just when I think I have run out of reasons to hate and/or make fun of this tunnel wart, he goes and does something like this and the whole world feels right again. If he wants to talk to Owen so bad, he should just kill two birds with one stone and help the rest of us out in the meantime and kill himself. He'll talk to Owen all the time after that and everyone on Earth will be happy. Oh wait, I forgot. Owen Hart isn't in hell. Well, maybe Bret WOULDN'T see him then. Good for Owen.

Maybe it has something to do with Vince being responsible, in whole or in part, for the destruction of Bret's family.

You know what I want? That every asshole who says that Bret should "get over it" is employed by a particular company, that they put years of blood, sweat, & tears into that company, and then have that company royally FUCK them over in the worst way possible, despite the years of hard work & loyalty.

Then I'd like to walk up to those people, as they're bitching about how horrible they've been treated, and say, "get over it".

Ow, I'm so wounded...

Forgive me if I see Hart as a sniveling crybaby who's letting his past destroy him. That's my opinion and I'm entitled to it, just as you're entitled to say I'm an asshole for voicing that opinion.

You know what I want, Se7en? I want you to work for a company 20 years, and I want you to, on your way out, attempt to embarass your employer by making his company look inferior, which Bret wanted to do, and I want to see what your employer would say to you.

Loyalty? How about the fucking loyalty the WWF showed to him? Giving a hapless midcarder the world title in his own stomping grounds by having him go over a legend (Ric Flair) and starting a legend of his own. Loyalty? How about allowing his, up to that point, no sign of charisma brother to get a shot at the main event when they were about to release him and only keeping him and giving him that opportunity because Bret asked for it. Loyalty? How about putting up with HIS political BS he continually pulled, especially during his last run with the company, when he forced the stoppage of a storyline that would split up Owen and the Bulldog so he could start the Hart Foundation and get more heat on him for his heel turn or changing a proposed job to then midcarder HHH to a countout a few weeks before Montreal? Loyalty? How about when Vince had given him the OK that the WWF was financially well off enough to keep him and he still accepts a deal with WCW behind his back and vince says OK to it because he'd be better off financially. HOW ABOUT THAT?

Yes, no question there have been instances where the WWF jerked him around. Look at 1995 and turning him heel when he didn't want to. I understand that. But it had been even. Bret has jerked them, too. In all, it was a gret relationship, though.

And you can't say the guy is delusional BECAUSE he got so "screwed" because he was delusional before. He didn't want to turn heel because he loved his character so much and it would kill his millions of fans. WTF? It's a storyline, you fuck! It led to entertaining TV with the Canada storyline and it refreshed a somewhat stale character in Bret. But this man was delusional beforehand to the point where he thought, well I can't explain WHAT he thought, but it was delusional. I think all this Monreal stuff just brought it out. And how the hell can you defend THIS anyway? Going to talk to the dead on national TV to make money? C'mon, se7en, don't be so naive as to not know Bret's REAL motives here.

And, BTW, I ask you, Se7en. You are the WWF. Your world champion is leaving to the competition which is kicking your ass ten ways to Sunday. You have two choices.

1) Have a guy who is leaving the WWF do what he wants and have him vacate the title with the reason being that he is leaving the organization to go to the competition and he wants to leave in style and thank his fans. This makes it seem that a guy who's been in your fucking company forever would rather just BE on the competition that hold your silly world title. It makes your belt seem meaningless. It also makes your competition seem superior as they look like they were able to woo your champ with ease. Also, there is the added risk of having Eric Bischoff show up on Nitro, 1 hour before you are on the air, and brag about signing the WWF world champion, and then having everyone tune into Raw just to see he was right and that the WWF couldn't even come up with a cute excuse to cover up this mess.

BUT HEY BRET AND VINCE GO HOME HAPPY, SO THAT'S ALL THAT MATTERS! After alll, ALL the successful businessmen put personal relationsips with employers over company credibility!

2) Have him lose the belt cleanly before any of this shit has to happen and then come up with a sotryline to explain his absence and make him go out in style. Unfortunately, he REFUSES to do something so silly as drop a fixed belt on his way out. Even the Scourge of Society, Hulk Hogan, jobbed the belt and agreed to get EMBARASSED on his way out in a match where he got no offense and Yokozuna pinned im with his OWN FUCKING MOVE! Yes, there was the fireball to make it a tainted win, but for crying out loud, Yokozuna beat the shit out of him the whole match and made sure that the Wrestlemania 9 fluke win looked even MORE like a fluke win with that domination.

So, Hogan, Mr. Politics, was classy enough to do it, but Bret wasn't. And dare I say, prior to SurSer 1997, Hogan was leaving on worse terms than Bret was leaving on at the time as Hogan was leaving after Vince rightfully told him he was being a jackass and hurting the company. VINCE HELPED BRET LEAVE, FOR GOD'S SAKE!

So, since he won't do it, you'd have to do it in a underhanded way for the sake of the company's credibility. Bret would be so mad, there'd be no way to come up with a good send off after the match like you orignially wanted to, but it was his own doing anyway.

You protect your company, but you lose a friend  Gee, what is worth more? Oh yes, that's right, the company, seeing as how it affects thousands of lives who work for you, and screwing Bret only affects one who is on the way out anyway.

So which one do you take?

#1? Have fun in bankruptcy court.

I understand you hate Vince with a passion, and I can't blame you, because Vince is a dirty busnessman, but the ONLY successful businessmen are DIRTY businessmen, so how can you fault him? But, please, don't let your hatred of Vince cloud your judgment of Bret as an obvious paranoid schizophrenic of some kind and force you to not see he was at least a TAD wrong on this and asked for it. I mean, c'mon. In many ways, even you have to agree, Bret DID screw Bret and now he's just a sad shell of his former self.

I always loved when Flair first came to the WWF and wore the old WCW title belt, they used to have to distort the video of it.

Well, the Harts are a really fucked up family as it is... check out Gooch's image parody of their fucked up brood here: Hart Family Values

Loyalty? Dont forget, Vince offered a liftime contract to Bret when he found out he was speaking to WCW, so what do you mean Bret was "Loyal"? He sold out and Vince did the right thing for "His Company" and even though I was a Hart fan until he became a pussy, which company is still around today?

Depends upon whom you believe.

I guess Vince is going around saying Bret signed behind his back.

The story I heard, from different sources (not just Bret), was that McMahon told Bret he couldn't honor the multimillion dollar agreement he made, so he could negotiate with WCW if he wanted to.

You have NO idea the amount of hate I possess for McMahon. The Bret mess is a drop in the bucket. Vince represents everything that is wrong with this business. EVERYTHING wrong with it.

A whole lot of misinformation going around about the Bret/Vince situation, even though it's over five years in the past. I would suggest everyone read Dave Meltzer's incredibly detailed account of what went down, which can be found HERE.

Well all I can say is look at which business has lasted. So say what you want about Vince but he did what was right for his company and his company is the only major game in town. I use to like Bret but he is dragging this on too much.

If he hates what happened that day why not just forget about it and move on to better things? Its because that is the only subject that will bring him back into the spotlight of professional wrestling.

You know, Bret could try to get closer to Owen just by throwing himself off the top of the Kemper arena. I'll bet that's alot more productive than this psychic shit.

Report by: Snake94152, rajahwwf.com reader

I'm typing this as I watch. Forgive me if I miss any part of what I'm typing now. I hope you post this. I'm missing RAW to type this up!!!

The psychic brings up his mother. He says that she speaks of passing, but not long ago. Still considered a new arrival. Says she was not afraid. A real trooper. Bret says she passed nearly a month ago. Says she referred to
herself as a trooper. Psychic says Helen says that Bret leads a double life. Bret says he's kind of like Batman. You put the costume on, and you do your job, and then you go home and you're Bruce Wayne again.

The psychic remarks that there is jealousy around Hart. He also brings up the movie "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers". Bret comments that Bret does
have seven brothers. Speaks of the loss of two brothers.

Psychic says there are two males trying to make contact, brothers of Bret. Says one brother says he wished he could be closer to Bret. Says that they must have had conflicts. Bret says it was his brother, Dean. Psychic says the brother remarks that there is a gap, but he forgives, and hopes Bret forgives too. Psychic brings up the other brother. Says this brother is his
best friend. Bret says it's Owen. Bret goes on to describe the accident that caused Owen's death.

Psychic says Owen says that Bret babied him. That he looked upon him as a father figure. That he made a difference in his life. To make sure that
Bret doesn't forget it, because he never will. Bret says he taught Owen how to tie his shoes and how to play "Cowboys and Indians". Psychic says Owen thanks Bret for taking care of him when he was alive.

Psychic says that both brothers say that since their deaths, and the death of Helen, that he's had to suffer in silence. That he can never make things better. The brothers say no, it's not too late to make things better. Says that the brothers do ask Bret to pray for them. The spirits pull back, and the session ends.

- Report by: Jonathan Barber, rajahwwf.com reader

Bret "The Hitman" Hart was on ABC's "Contact: Talking To The Dead" on Monday. The medium, George Anderson says that Bret's mom is coming through. Bret talks about his mother (Helen, who recently passed away), and mentions her recent passing. He talks about his history as a wrestler, and they show some of his WWF clips, like from WrestleMania 12 and SummerSlam '92 (it was all footage from "Wrestling With Shadows," not any new footage from the WWF). He mentions the family's lack of communication, obviously refering to their recent problems with Davey, Diana, and everyone. His mom supposedly mentions about how many brothers he has (Bruce, Owen, Ross, etc.). The two sons are supposedly there with her (Owen and someone else; I guess he lost another brother, too). We go to a commercial. When we come back, Bret discusses his two late brothers. One comes through as being not very close to Bret, which refers to Dean Hart. There's a gap b! etween them. Then, Owen is drawn very close. He comes through as "Bret's pal." Bret mentions the freak accident at the Kansas City Kemper Arena where Owen fell to his death. Owen comes through as being a younger brother to Bret, almost like Bret brought him up. Bret mentions how close they were. Owen supposedly thanks Bret for that. With that, they step back. Bret said he was thinking that he would hear more from his mom.

Overall, Bret came off pretty good. He looked good, looked like he was doing well. He's my all-time favorite grappler, so I wouldn't have missed his appearance for the world.

But of course he isn't doing it for the money...of course not...
