it appears the World Wildlife Fund is not totally satisfied with their victory, mentioning that they were hoping the WWE would go with an even more "distinct" name, to avoid confusion with their organization.

Thanks to John Feltham for sending the following.

WWF's legal action against World Wrestling Federation Entertainment, Inc.: Statement following the wrestlers' announced name change

5/07/02 10:53am

LONDON, England, May 7 /CNW/ - News that the World Wrestling Federation Entertainment Inc. have changed their name and logo in light of recent court action has been received with surprise by WWF, the conservation organization. This unilateral move comes when an application to appeal to the House of Lords by the Wrestlers' is still pending. Yesterday the World Wrestling Federation announced that it was changing its name to World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc., as well as altering its scratch logo and website domain name - both of which were subject to the case brought by WWF. Paul Steele, Chief Operating Officer for WWF International said: "The fact that the Wrestlers have taken this action is an acknowledgement that the proposed appeal has little chance of success. However WWF was expecting that they would opt for a more distinct name change that would put 'clear water' between our two organizations, to quote one of the judges in the recent court action. We are still considering the implications of this move as the earth's natural environment relies on the public's recognition and trust of a respected, global conservation organization. The Federation's breaches of the 1994 Agreement diluted and tarnished WWF's identity and the messages associated with it. Unfortunately, WWF's repeated requests all failed to convince the Federation to abide by the Agreement that it freely negotiated and signed, and WWF was forced to bring the action.

They have to be kidding me. No one gives a shit about the World Wildlife Fund. You say WWF almost anywhere in the world and they will know it is wrestling and not some stupid panda hugging fund.

This is ridiculous now. I think they should dump this WWE bullshit. A plan I came up with is at King of the Ring, Eric Bischoff shows up with Bill Goldberg. He cuts a huge promo about Vince and the WWF. He than starts talking about WCW and it's history. Through the weeks leading to summerslam, Ric Flair, the NWO, Chris Jericho, Lance Storm, the debuts of Rey Mysterio and Scott Steiner join Bischoff. Vince and Bischoff come to an agreement that there will be a tournament at Summerslam (Raw and Smackdown can fight each other here) which will change the future of the WWF. You have Bischoff's group win overall at summerslam and WWF or WWE now becomes WCW and Raw becomes Nitro. Vince gets to keep Smackdown but under the WCW name. WWF is dead. We can pretend that WWE never existed and you restore the name of WCW. SOunds crazy but whats better losing countless lawsuits to camels and pandas or restoring a name that means something to a lot of wrestling fans.

TW - not that your Invasion Sequel idea wouldn't be good, but it'll never happen. In Vince's warped fucking mind, that would be letting WCW win over WW_. It's a clever idea, it would probably breathe a lot of new life into this STALE, DEAD PRODUCT.... but Vince is too fucking stupid, too hard-headed, and too high on himself to ever make such a SMART business decision.

After the first Invasion, Vince did exactly what he said he'd do when he bought WCW.... put it on the shelf. WCW is now nothing more than a tape library for the WW_ to use to their advantage, like having Stunning Steve Austin clips in the new "What?" video (which, actually, might make that thing worth buying)...

You mean the fact that one is a wrestling organization and the other is about the environment isnt clear enough????

I was going to say the same thing FTL. No way Vince continues with the WCW over the company his grandfather started.

My point is it looks more and more like WWE is hear to stay and everyone hates the name. If they can't have WWF, why not make it into a an angle where the 3 people who defined WCW who are not signed, Goldberg, Bischoff and Steiner where they than can resurrect the WCW name.

SInce WWF, seems to no longer exist, what is a better option WCW which they own the name, the history, the footage, the names of the tv shows, the names of the PPV's, or WWE.

They can even change some PPV names and make them starrcade, Great american bash and halloween havoc.

Tell me that having Bischoff lead a real invasion against Vince at Summerslam would not spark major interest back in this pathetic display as we saw on raw on monday.

Have matches like
Goldberg vs Austin
Scott Steiner vs HHH
Bischoff vs Vince
Chris Jericho (WCW) vs Chris Benoit (WWF)
Ric Flair vs Kurt Angle
Rey Mysterio vs tajiri

WHoever wins the most takes total control and can rename the organization, the monday night show and certain ppv names that are expendable.

Walk up to 1000 people and ask them what WWF stands for. 999 will say World Wrestling Federation. The other guy is mute, and writes down World Wrestling Federation.

In 30 years, WWF will stand for World Wrestling Federation. Period. There is nothing that the Wildlife Fund can do about it.

The invasion angle sounds cool, but like everyone said, Vince won't do it.

They should have an all wresting channel. God knows they have enough archived footage to do it. Show some great recent matches, along with some legendary older matches. Tully vs Magnum in the I Quit match, LOD vs Midnight Express in the Scaffold Match, old ECW matches - I would probably watch that any chance I get. If not a channel, then at least a weekly show showing some of those matches. There is classic footage just rotting away on shelves. Sad, really.

WHOA.. Wait a minute, i think it's a bit of a stretch to say goldberg, steiner, and biscoff defined WCW. i would say the people who defined wcw were Sting,Flair,Vader,Luger,Steamboat, and maybe Bischoff when he wasnt fucking it up. Goldberg was a big part, but he didnt define it, and scott steiner only got big in the end, before that it was his brother.

I dont understand why they cant just use "World Wrestling Federation" and stop using the WWF initials when advertising. I would thing it would be much better from a corporate stand point and a fan standpoint.

Let's not get carried away here. WWF is starting to let people go (Hall, Mr. Perfect), why even bring in three more worthless pieces of crap?

I mean, going WCW would be a logical choice, but Vince should stick with appeals. And then bash the Wildlife Fund for wasting their charity money to keep three fucking letters.

so let me get this straight..the panda lovers are going to try to sue the "WWE" again because their company name is too close to theirs? do they actually expect to win that case?
