Random thoughts from under the black Resistol hat about WrestleMania, WCW and other World Wrestling Federation news.

I was very proud of our WrestleMania event and the tremendous effort and preparation the Federation Superstars and officials gave to our fans to make last Sunday such a success. The achievements of many on April 1 in the Reliant Astrodome in Houston will long be remembered as one of the Federation's brightest days. My personal thanks to our superstars, officials, staff, and most importantly our fans for making WrestleMania and AXXESS such a wonderful experience.

Lots of WCW rumors circulating so let's address some of them. Twenty-four talents have been contractually obligated as of today. No support staff has been hired nor promised jobs; however, we hope to have a staff in place within two or three weeks. This would include agents, referees, ring crew, TV announcers, ring announcers, writers and other necessary staff members. The new tentative first night of TV production is Saturday, June 9, at a site to be determined for broadcast later that same night on TNN, from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. No firm start date for house shows has been set; however, we hope to be in the WCW arena business by early fall. The first WCW Pay-Per-View might come as early as September, but that, too, has yet to be confirmed and is only a working plan at this time.

It is possible that several former WCW talents may be given the opportunity to rejoin the WCW team after their current contractual issues have been resolved with their current employer. A three-hour meeting with several key members of the WWF staff regarding the WCW relaunch was held Thursday in Stamford, Conn., and was very productive. Obviously, there is tons of work to do but a strong transition team is in place.

Contrary to what you may have read or heard, Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla., has not been finalized for the 2002 WrestleMania. This facility is under serious consideration but a site survey has yet to take place, which is absolutely necessary before any decision can be reached. We should know more within the next two or three weeks.

After The Rock's "indefinite suspension" by Mr. McMahon Thursday night on SmackDown!, do not expect to see the People's Champion back in a Federation ring until July or August. By the way, there is absolutely no discussion regarding The Rock going to work for Shane McMahon in WCW. There may be some under-utilized Federation talents who may be assigned to WCW but that list has yet to be finalized and probably will not be for a month or more.

I am pleased that many of you enjoyed my interaction with Stone Cold Steve Austin on SmackDown! Considering it was Oklahoma, where I got my start in the business, this was one of the more memorable days I've had in my career. According to doctors, I could have used stitches but I opted to have my wound addressed by having it glued. All in a days work it would seem. Should make for some interesting TV content going forward. I hear Austin's right hand is a little sore, by the way.

Our Federation Superstars return to work Monday in Boston (sold out) for RAW and then on to Philadelphia (sold out) for Tuesday's SmackDown! taping. They should be well-rested and ready to go!

Kane, Gangrel, Essa Rios and Taka Michinoku are all wrestling in Puerto Rico this weekend.

Next week in Tallahassee, Fla., the main event will be a six-man tag featuring Undertaker, Kane and Chris Jericho against Austin, Triple H, and Commissioner William Regal.

Federation Superstars will be off April 13-15 to allow them to enjoy Easter with their families.

Chris Benoit, Kurt Angle, APA, Crash and Molly will compete in Jackson, Tenn., on Wednesday, April 18, for Memphis Championship Wrestling.

Many Federation Superstars are planning on being a part of a huge Ohio Valley Wrestling event in Louisville, Ky., on Wednesday, June 27.

Chances are good that both Stone Cold and Triple H will defend their respective Federation titles on May 5 at the United Kingdom's Insurrextion Pay-Per-View.

Playboy seems to be interested in doing more projects with the Federation.

Al Snow, Tazz, Jacqueline and Tori are all doing an excellent job according to TV producers of "Tough Enough," our new MTV program. As best I know, June is the debut month for this new reality-based broadcast.

Not that I'm able to put a big smile on my face these days, thanks to Bells Palsy, but I was sure smiling as best I could after hearing that every bottle of J.R.'s BBQ Sauce taken to AXXESS was sold! We hope to have some big news on this project very soon.

I'm hearing from people these days that I have not heard from in years. Some I never thought would be calling me for any reason. Lots of bridge repair on going!

Expect next weeks TV to be very hot! Or so my "sources" tell me.

We are very pleased with Rhyno's progress thus far.

How good would Y2J and Chris Benoit be as a team?

William Regal and Bradshaw will be doing some promotional work in the UK May 2-4.

Speaking of Bradshaw, he may be in line for a significant singles opportunity very soon. The big, athletic Texan has lost almost 30 pounds, down to 270, the past several weeks and looks to be in the best physical shape of his career.

Murray Happer of the Dupps tag team has been released, as have Just Joe and Jason Sensation.

I am in Las Vegas as I write this preparing for my last XFL game of the season. It will be the Outlaws vs. the Memphis Maniax and highlights will be airing in the primary game on NBC, which should be a good one, pitting San Francisco at L.A. I am preparing for this to be my last XFL game ever even though the league will be back next season, with or without NBC. I've had a great time broadcasting the XFL this season and would love to next year but I'm not sure that opportunity will arise. I have no regrets. Working with Dick Butkus has been a dream come true and I am always inspired with the attitude of the many players and coaches who have worked their asses off with little media support to increase the level of play as this inaugural season has progressed.

Take care of yourself and I'll see you back here next week.

J.R.
