I really don't see this being true, but who knows. Anything can happen in the WWF.

Holy Shit, I thought this was a joke at first. Here they are involved in a storyline and all of a sudden the Kat is released and Lawler quits. I can't wait to find out what really went down.

I guess they will have to replace Lawler on the XFL Now too. This came out of nowhere, I wonder what the reasoning for all this is for.

I keep thinking it's a work. Using the website to work the fans. Kat was just put back into a mid-level storyline. Guess we'll know in the next couple days.

I find it hard to believe that THe King will be gone just like that. Im sure it was just a heat of the moment thing, and once he has time to calm down he will be back. I know the WWF doesnt want to lose them and really cant afford to lose him. I dont think Tazz is ready to take over as lead analyst. The Fact that he is an analyst is a joke anyway. Thats like the NBA Taking Kobe Bryant off the Lakers and putting him in the NBC Booth.

That's a possibility, but I doubt it. First of all, not enough fans visit the site to make that difference - the 10%, if that, who regularly visit will be the only ones that know. Also, if they really wanted to play it up as an angle, you'd think there would be a "full story" link explaining more, not just two sentences. Although you could also say that the fans are seeing what they see if anyone's released, so the WWF is making us think it's real - sure, it could go either way.

Still, if it's real, what does this mean for developments out of Memphis? All the prospective talent that the WWF put there is either going to be gone or jump to OVW...

According to 1wrestling, Kat wasn't happy with what they wanted her to do as part of the RTC storyline, leading to her being let go. We'll see what happens...

Well best thing I can think of is to keep checking kinglawler.com since it is their (King ang Kat's) official site. From what I've read, Lawler did not work the Smackdown tapings. Great, I promised myself I wasn't going to read the spoilers this week, now I gotta read to see who commentated. Please oh please don't let it be Taz(z).

Hey wait a sec, if the decision to cancel XFL Gameday was NBC's, maybe Vince could make it up to O&A by---naaaah...

It seems a little odd to me that there's no headline or story on kinglawler.com's main page. Also, there's very little information in the site about it. No details at all. Its all very vague. I think it might be an angle. Vince is a damn smart guy, and he knows that with the internet, most angles are rooned before they even start. Maybe Vince is trying to work that to his advantage.

well that site isn't always updated timely. But like others, I keep thinking it's a work, b/c I have that feeling.

It sounds kinda fishy. I personally think that this is the beginning of some storyline, but I've been wrong about things in the past...

this is from 1wrestling: Multiple sources contacted us earlier in the evening to alert us to a breaking story involving Jerry "The King" Lawler and his relationship with the WWF.
Lawler has apparently quit the company after his wife Stacy Carter was released earlier in the day.

WWF.com confirmed the report moments ago with the following brief announcement about the situation:

Stacy Carter (The Kat) was released today by the World Wrestling Federation. Her husband, Jerry "The King" Lawler, also decided to leave the company under protest.

Lawler did not participate in the Smackdown television tapings.

Sources tell 1Wrestling.com that dispute was related to planned storylines involving Carter and the RTC.

And Thats The Bottom Line.....

If this is true, it really sucks..I always liked Lawler as an announcer and he and J.R. really worked well together..For someone who has been a part of the WWF for several years now to just quit like that is disappointing..I don't see why they could not deal with the storyline, or make adjustments to it...So far, the RTC angle has not degraded the Kat,I wonder what was planned that she objected to? And for the WWF to release a popular female just like that..

I got this from Dave Meltzer's site:

According to Alan Whitenton, who does Jerry Lawler's web site, he said he talked to Lawler and there was a meeting where they talked about what was going to happen on the Smackdown show, which broke up at 2 p.m. He said there were no disagreements regarding any angles at this time. When he came back at 4 p.m. this afternoon, Jim Ross told Lawler that they had just had to release Stacy Carter. Lawler said he told Ross and Vince McMahon that if she goes, he goes. They didn't change their decision and he left. He claimed there was no incident or provocation of any kind that led up to this and he and Carter are as confused as anyone attempting to figure this out.

Unbelievable. Obviously, the WWF won't suffer without Kat, but no King? I have to know what she did to piss them off. the RTC storyline might not have been what she wanted, but it's more airtime than she's had lately. And Lawler has earned enough respect in the WWF over the years. Stacy must have done something really bad, otherwise this is all ridiculous. Let's hope King comes back after some cooldown time. I wouldn't bet that the Memphis promotion makes them enough cash to cover the loss.

Exact text from kinglawler.com:

"02/27/01

Lawler and the Kat gone from the WWF

Stacy was released by the WWF this afternoon. In protest, Jerry Lawler has also parted ways with the WWF. The release came as a total surprise without any provocation whatsoever. As for the speculation that was reported on other websites, there wasn't any disagreement involving an angle.

Notes from the Webmaster - I talked to Jerry on the phone tonight. He informed me that they had a business meeting to discuss the angles and events that were to take place on Smackdown. They took a break around 2:00 and came back at 4:00 or so. When they came back, JR told Lawler that they had to release Stacy. King told JR and Vince that if Stacy goes, he goes also. There was absolutely no incident or provocation of any kind that lead up to this. Jerry and Stacy are trying to figure this one out as well.

Stay tuned for more details

There is definately more to this than meets the eye"

The latest on the story from 1 wrestling.com:

" A source close to Jerry Lawler and his wife, Stacy "The Kat" Carter, contacted me to reiterate Lawler's position that he has no idea what led to the firing of the Kat. Of course, Lawler quit the company in protest after his wife was released yesterday afternoon. The source said that Lawler did not see it coming and was surprised by what has happened.

"I have also found out that Lawler and Kat had no problems doing the RTC storylines. One source I spoke to said that the whole angle was Lawler's idea.

"From what I was told, the angle was for Val Venis to have sex with Kat, losing his "pureness". There was even talk down the road of Kat luring Ivory into the sack. The idea would be that her "wanton ways" would ruin the RTC from within, and Lawler and Kat were fine with it. Of course, that has all been scrapped now and Lawler has quit the company in support of his wife. One source told me to "not be surprised" is this situation becomes legal. As Georgie posted earlier, Lawler and Kat are now accepting independent bookings.

"On a possibly related note, the rumor I am hearing is that Ivory will defend her Women's title against Chyna at WrestleMania."

This gets odder by the second.

What really sucks for the King is that he sent word out to WCW some months ago that he would be interested in switching over to them....but the company was in such disarray in the months before the sale and Bischoff's return, they couldn't offer him anything.

Now WCW has ownership, with the final deal about to close, and Lawler quits with a 2 year contract still on him...which probably means a no-compete clause.

Looks like he'll have to hit the Indies if money ever becomes an issue, at least for awhile.

the latest in the Kat/Lawler saga. This is from lordsofpain.net:

"Jerry Lawler not under WWF contract, free to head to WCW

Submitted by Ryan Boyd on Wednesday, February 28, 2001 at 10:18 PM EST

Jerry Lawler never returned a signed contract to Jim Ross, and thus is a free agent.
Ross made mention a few weeks back that Lawler had reached a deal with the WWF, which in fact, is probably true. However, Lawler never signed his deal, or handed it back in.

Lawler was attempting to also negotiate with WCW at the time, to put pressure on the WWF to make him a better offer.

Vince McMahon however found out that Brad Siegel was not overly familiar with Lawler, and did not show much interest.

There is speculation that aside from being a problem in the locker room, that the Kat may have been released as a payback from Vince to Lawler for talking with WCW.

Eric Bischoff has reportedly been making every attempt to contact Lawler today.

If/When he signs with WCW, we will keep you informed.

Wow....1Wrestling.com said it best...Biscoff getting Lawler would be a major coup for the WCW...this, with the WWF signing Meng, are more signs that the old Monday night wars are on the horizon. Looks like wrestling can get interesting again.
