Psychopath Registered: Oct. 00	With recent "updates" about David Lee Roth and Van Halen sounding exactly like a dozen other stories over the past year and a half (i.e., "Roth has been in the studio with Van Halen for the past two weeks recording a new album"), the situation begs for an explanation from our inside sources. The problem, confirm our insiders, is that the reunion is up and down like a yo-yo. Roth will get impatient with Van Halen (as in Eddie Van Halen) and will put in motion aspects of his solo career -- be it studio sessions or tour plans, often holding them as a hammer over the heads of his former/current/former/current bandmates. The latter progressed to where clubs were actually booking Roth solo dates this month, but the two factions have again kissed and made up –- or at least agreed to tolerate each other. For Eddie's part, we hear he routinely retreats from the reunion due to Diamond Dave's antics. Complicating the issue has been Eddie's cancer. Although while the chemotherapy at one point last year was said to not be going well, more recently we hear he's told friends it has now been eradicated, and he is cancer free. Other problems have surfaced in the business arena. Negotiations involving Roth/Van Halen deals are no picnic, and they've also had to unravel themselves from former manager Ray Danniels (who allegedly wrote himself into a situation where he gets paid whether he manages the band or not). Meanwhile, both sides are cryptically telling fans that they will be recording and touring, but they refuse to confirm they'll be playing together. They're being truthful.
