What particular song or act from the band made you feel like your favorite band jumped the shark?

Perfect example would be Metallica with the whole Napster incident.

I thought U2 jumped the shark with the album POP but came back strong with their latest.

These are just 2 examples off the top of my head.

I just put the text of this post into the google and cnn search engines and nothing came up. So, I trust this wasn't a cut and paste job ;)

Axl pissed off Izzy enough to quit the band 2 months after the realease of Use Your Illusion I and II.

Thanks Slash. Jeez what do I have to do around here. I am a changed Poster. Absolutely No More newsthreads unless I find them to be very funny and are NOT found on cnn.com. I am no longer the newsweek of O&A.com.

I know this sounds odd, but when I started hearing Staind on PLJ and Z100 it made me wonder where their career might be going, eventhough the majority of their album is not like Outside or Its Been A While...

Also, I hate when artists that I've been following for a long time before they made it "big" get on MTV and their sound changes completely....

Well, if you listen to those stations, their career is probably going in the direction you want it to.

Yea, it sucks what happened to Back Strret Boys, once they hit it "big". ;)

When ya work in an office with cubicles, you tend to hear whats on other stations...also when your friend who loves Britney Spears and BSB can sing you a Staind song it worries ya.... ;)

According to the real Slash Izzy got clean and sober and became so arrogant and pompous that they threw him out.

Though the Black album was fairly good, it was the first album that pandered to radio and MTV by being short and more radio friendly ie shorter songer and standard verse chorus verse formats and is when Metallica jumped the shark for the first time. Of course 'tallica hasn't found a shark yet that they won't jump.

Pantera - The Great Southern Trendkill, which sounded exactly like the last one except the singing just gets worse and worse

Nirvana - When the lead singer blew his brains out wih a shotgun

Black Sabbath - When they kicked the original lead singer out.

RATM - When the third album sounded exactly like the second.

Van Halen - See Black Sabbath.

Two openings available at Mr. Brownstone Academy of Dance .

Guns N' Roses From The Inside from RIP March, 1992 - An exclusive report by Lonn M. Friend

When Slash talks about being happy within the confines of your career, he is alluding to Izzy Stradlin. For months after the band ended the first leg of their Get In The Ring tour last August 31st at London's Wembley Stadium, things were not right with Izzy and the band. I was at Wembley and saw how frustrated and tired he was. But now, we come to the theme of this article - perception and reality: The press had a field day with the rumours surrounding Izzy's departure from Guns. One pathetic metal rag even accused Axl of forcing his longtime friend and fellow Indiana native out of band. This was not the case. Hear the truth:

"Izzy resigned from Guns on November 7, 1991, because his heart wasn't in it," explains Slash. "He's just not interested anymore. It was one of those things where he just didn't want to tour again. Izzy's been keeping himself more or less clean for quite a while now, and the chaos of being on the road, especially with the rest of us driving him crazy, he just couldn't deal with it. He's been 110% sober for the past two years, and even though I'm not shooting up or anything anymore. I'm still a nutcase when it comes to extracurricular activities. He tried to come back though. He came to a couple rehearsals, but he really wasn't there. He didn't care. His heart wasn't in it. Izzy's still gonna write with us, and he might make a few special appearances on the road, but he's no longer a touring member of the band. As for me, personally, I'd rather Izzy be happy. And this is what he wants."

That had a lot to do with Axl's bullshit of pissing off the fans by going on stage 2 hours late on a regular basis.

One of my favorite bands jumped the shark when "Scar Tissue" started being played over and over and over and over...at least that's THIS ol' broad's opinion.

Yeah, death kinda kills creativity ;)
I didn't help Jimi Hendrix or Janice Joplin

and The Who jumped when Keith Moon "left"
(you see, he didn't really die - it is just a coverup - after all on "Who Are You" he is sitting on a chair which says "not to be taken away") :) :) :)

Both good, but they jumped when they sold out like pussies when the black album came out.
