| O&A Board Regular Registered: May. 01 | Well that just blows. What are they supposed to play, the same tired radio ready songs that every other station plays. At least WSOU has some unknown & interesting stuff. Who ordered them? And any idea how long they have been at that format? That's going to suck for alot of bands too. I used to go see one that played alot of WSOU Nights. I'd bet the shows drew a crowd. (I saw them somewhere else.)  | ||||

The whole week of the tragedy, it seemed K-Rock only played those songs. My friends and I came up with the conspiracy one night, of course, there was pot involved, so we could be wrong. :) | ||||

Staff members at WSOU-FM learned about the decision during a Sept. 10 meeting with Mel Shay, provost of the Roman Catholic university in South Orange. They were told the new format must be in place by Jan. 2 Khaled Elsebai, a senior who serves as the station's music director, said it already bans bands and songs whose lyrics might be considered obscene or anti-religious. He said university officials do not understand the music they play and tend to stereotype its fans. Several staffers have objected to the change, noting that the station has had the same format for 15 years. The station claims to have about 100,000 listeners. "They don't like what we are. They think we are a bunch of devil worshippers," Nicolle Tanelli, a disc jockey who goes by the name of "Negative Nicole," told The Record of Hackensack for Tuesday's editions. Susan Diamond, the assistant vice president for university relations, said heavy metal and hard rock would not be banned from the station, but it could no longer be the station's signature music. "The tone and lyrics and the genre is different than 15 years ago," she said. "It's a matter of the acceptability of that in a faith-based institution." | Psychopath Registered: May. 01 | this really pissed me off the most when i heard of it in sept. but the more i think about it, its not as bad as i thought. granted, SOU introduced me to alot of the bands i listen to today, but now i just go to shows or go on the net to find out about new shit. still, it was most likely the only station in America that played REAL heavy music on a reg. basis, and i heard it usually beat out K-Rock in ratings, but i dunno how true that is.... | ||||
