Here's a topic I don't think we've had, though I'm probably wrong and there has been one already...

What's some of your favorite Supergroups or Side projects or just some that aren't well-known? Like the Traveling Wilburys, Blind Faith, Damn Yankees

I also love the Desert Sessions, a bunch of musicians from different bands (like Kyuss, Soundgarden, Moster Magnet) record an album while all fucked up in where else but the middle of the desert...and Liquid Tension Experiment, with Portney/Petrucci/Rudess

Good question...

If you consider Cream one, it would have to be them. A lot of people consider them to be the original supergroup, but I could see an argument against it.

on nov. 20, i'm going to check out oysterhead in massachusetts. it's trey anastasio from phish, copeland from the police, and les claypool from primus. i've heard a few tunes so far and they sound great. i can't wait for that fucking show.
and i love most of jerry garcia's sideprojects. check out "the pizza tapes" with tony rice and david grisman. basically they screwed around playin old bluegrass and rock tunes in the studio and recorded just for the hell of it. eventually, one of the copies got out (allegedly by some pizza delivery guy who snagged the tape at jerry's house, hence the name) and they figured they'd release it anyway.

Six Feet Under: Originally a side project consisting of
Chris Barnes (formerly of Cannibal Corpse)
Allen West (Obituary)replaced by:
Steve Swanson (Formerly of Massacre)
Terry Butler (Formerly of Death)
and Greg Gall

Now a superband.

Transatlantic:

Mike Portnoy (drums/Dream Theater & LTE)
Pete Trewavas (bass/Marillion)
Neal Morse (vocals/Spock's Beard)
Roine Stolt (guitar/Flower Kings)

It doesn't top Dirty Mac in name value, but is right up there on the same level in overall talent.

Side projects often end up in disaster, at least
in the world of punk and metal. Anyway, here
are some of my faves:

Fantomas
Quicksand
Into Another
Tomahawk
Altamont
Lard

Two of my favorites have been Temple of the Dog and Mad Season.

since sideprojects is on this topic, i am going to mentions A Perfect Circle. It is not a supergroup. But it is the side project of Maynard James Keenan who is the lead singer of Tool. The Perfect Circle CD is excellent and quite a difference from Tool.
