Mick Jagger | Goddess In The Doorway

Expected Release Date: November 20, 2001

After nearly 40 years of being the very embodiment of a rock star, does Mick Jagger have anything left in the tank? Jagger might be wondering the very same thing as he's gone the Carlos Santana route, enlisting a top-shelf roster of collaborators for Goddess in the Doorway, his first solo record since 1993's magnificent Wandering Spirit, and his fourth overall. Bono, Pete Townshend, Wyclef Jean, Joe Perry, Lenny Kravitz, and Matchbox 20's Rob Thomas lend a hand and show that all the star power in the world can't save sub-par material.
The better moments of Goddess -- "God Gave Me Everything," a stormy guitar romp with Kravitz, and "Visions of Paradise," an overproduced yet sweetly sentimental number written with Thomas -- sound like Bridges to Babylon leftovers. The rest of the bunch adds up to little more than wayward, world beat rock that hinges upon Jagger's fascination with dance music -- be it the exotic hip-hop-cum-reggae lilt of "Hideaway" (with Wyclef), or the house grooves that crop up in the otherwise generic rocker "Gun."

Quite a shame, really, because Jagger's voice is one of the finest and most identifiable in rock, and still a lethal instrument. Unfortunately, it seems like his quest for a muse in locales like the dance clubs of South Beach and the villas of France has turned his spirit to booty-shaking mush. Keith must be thrilled.

Don't Tear Me Up

Life is rich, but it's way too short (yea, especially to listen to this shit)
You make a lot of money, but you just want more (You know that all too well, don't you?)
I don't need the pain right here in my heart (But, it's ok to put a pain in all of our hearts and ears?)
But I hate every minute (Yes, I believe that will be an almost verbatim description of your new release)
when we're so far apart

It was love in a minute, it was love in a flash (I can only hope will be how long your album will be on the top 40 chart
It brings me no pleasure (This news brings us no pleasure either), just a stab in the back Uh-Huh
It brings me no comfort, it brings me no peace (Same here)
A weight on my shoulder (Nah, I just won't buy it, but I am sure the sheep will), it's a fatal disease (You said it, yet somehow you don't comprehend it.)

So don't tear me up
I don't ever wanna see your picture again
And don't poison my blood
I don't ever wanna see your face here no more

Gonna finish it quick, gonna finish it clean (Actually, I am sure you did throw this together quick, it would be a shame if you labored over it. Also, clean??? Bah, I bet it is bloated as a motherfucker)
Don't wanna be bitter. (Me neither, you still have about 35 hours to avoid that) I don't wanna be mean (Seems the critics drew first blood)
I feel like we're driving down a dead-end street (You are.)
I've come so far I wanna crash the car (You should have.)
I wanna land right on my feet (Not Gonna Happen! Not to me anyway.)

I said don't tear me up
I don't ever wanna see your picture again
I said don't tear me up
I don't ever wanna see your face here no more

But I dream of you constantly, you'll be my angel of light
And in the dark rooms of sleeplessness (Nope, I won't be losing any sleep over this.)
You'll be my lover each night

Life is a bitch, it's way too short (So why do this to us?)
Unlike a politician it just can't be bought Just like your new album

Think about the tenderness, and think about the craziness
And if you ever wanna hate me (No no no, we love you) come and
Stick a knife right in my chest {Why not?, you are about to do that to all your fans)

I said don't tear me up
I don't ever wanna see your picture again
I said don't tear me up
I don't ever wanna see your face here no more

I said don't tear me up
I said don't tear me up
I said don't poison my blood
I don't ever wanna see your picture again

I thought we were supposed to "Let the Music do the talking" here. ;)

That was pretty funny though. The guy should've quit 10 years ago.

Yea, well it seems that Ken'sPen took over as moderator of Music Forum with...

These are his rules now. Obey Obey Obey!!! :)

Sorry Slash, I didn't hit the link in the other thread. This is the first I saw this.

Yea, I was sitting here all day refreshing this thread just waiting for your reply.

Kidding, very funny.

I was going to put that quote at the bottom of my thread as a pre-emptive, but I figured that I would throw you the bone and let you do it. You are so predictable.

One last thing...

I am just curious. What did you edit? Did you insert the "quote" as an after thought, or did you sycophantly (Kid, is that a word?) edit your post to add "Kidding, very funny."? My ego needs to know.

That's not in the realm of mod powers to find out?

The quote and "kidding" were both an edit.

How many times have you hit refresh in the past twenty minutes?
