Ain't Misbehavin'

No one to talk to ....all by myself
No one to walk with.....I'm happy on the shelf
Ain't misbehavin'......savin' all my love for you

I know for certain......the one I love
I'm through with flirtin'......it's just you that I've been thinkin' of
Ain't misbehavin'.......savin' all my love for you

Like Jack Horner.....in that ole corner
Don't go nowhere.....what do I care?
Your kisses are worth waitin' for......believe me

I don't stay out late.......no where to go
I'm home about eight......just me and my radio
Ain't misbehavin'.......savin' all my love for you

(instrumental break)

Like Jack Horner.....in that ole corner
Don't go nowhere.....what do I care?
Your kisses are worth waitin' for......believe me

I don't stay out late.......no where to go
I'm home about eight......just me and my radio
Ain't misbehavin'.......savin' all my love for you

Ain't misbehavin'......I'm savin all my love for you

I think it all started with the Declaration of Independence -- the idea that we had the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That pursuit is what took America from the revolution to the computer age in 200 years. But the progress has come at a price. The obvious being the people that were exploited to make it possible; the not so obvious being us, the first group of people that were given no obvious frontiers to conquer. We hear stories that about the good old days that don't seem to apply anymore. It's a generation gap that leaves us without role models. But the bright side is that without role models, there are no roles. Maybe that's what the 60s were all about -- getting rid of the roles. But what do we replace them with? Without any guidance, what do we replace them with? Without any guidance, the choices become overwhelming. Sometimes it just makes everything feel hopeless. So we destroy our bodies in the search of an ideal. Try to salvage relationships that don't work. We feel we must do something, instead of doing something that we feel. It is the prison of self-imposed momentum, and the sad part is that we get used to it. It reminds me of a song I heard the other day. It's called "The Going Nowhere Fast." But the people I have met here have shown me another side of Nowhere. They've pointed out the beautiful irony that stagnation makes it easy to stop and smell the roses, if we just let it. What would we be if we had nothing to rebel against? Well we could finally be ourselves, the first group of people who stopped looking for the answers long enough to appreciate the questions. And all we have to do is to make our own Declaration of Independence. We can embrace the right to life and liberty by simply realizing that happiness exists -- not to pursue, but to accept. After that the only challenge would be to make sure with the rest of our lives that we weren't just another fad. I don't know, it's an idea. What do you think?

Oklahoma!

Lyrics by OSCAR HAMMERSTEIN II
Music by RICHARD RODGERS

Oklahoma, where the wind comes sweepin' down the plain
And the wavin' wheat can sure smell sweet
When the wind comes right behind the rain.
Oklahoma, Ev'ry night my honey lamb and I
Sit alone and talk and watch a hawk
Makin' lazy circles in the sky.

We know we belong to the land
And the land we belong to is grand!
And when we say
Yeeow! Ayipioeeay!
We're only sayin'
You're doin' fine, Oklahoma!
Oklahoma O.K.

[repeat]

...You look like a perfect fit
for a grrl in need of a tourniquet
But can you save me
Come on and save me
If you could save me
From the ranks
of the freaks
who suspect
they could never love anyone...

Are you kidding Slash, you have to respect Louis! I just picked up Essential Louis Armstrong the other day, it's a great CD.

I think "Ain't Misbehavin'" is a Fats Waller tune.

Froy, if you want some good old blues, pick up BB King "Live at The Regal" the songs are great and the crowd reaction is something you don't hear too often.

I don't know who wrote it, but I have the Armstrong version. Many of those old songs have been recorded by tons of different artists. His cover of Bobby Darin's Mack the Knife is also worth a listen.

I have been getting into the blues a lot lately. I just picked up Jimmy Vaughn's new CD 'Do You Get the Blues' and the best of Muddy Waters.

I love satchmo, if you really wanna hear some great armstrong, pick up a cd with duets between stachmo and bing crosby. The two of them were a match made in heaven when they did duets they fed off eachother amazingly.

One of my favorites is Bing and Satch doin Gone Fishin'.

Armstrong did do a cover of ain't misbehavin'. His best cover in my opinion is of Blueberry Hill and Dream a little dream of me. It's just something about that voice of his, unique and not pretty yet beautiful.

BB King is great but armstrong is a different kind of music, his jazz differs from anything BB did. Plus if you want great blues go with Muddy Waters.

Then again I prefer instrumental blues, barring billie holiday. Pick up some Coltrane and Miles Davis, especially the Blue Note live recordings Miles did in the late 50's early 60's that is some powerful music, just raw.

I know that! It was just a suggestion. Here's another one. Try Eddie Harris and Les McCann "Swiss Movement". Great "jazz" CD

Not really a jazz fan, but I am a Louis Armstrong fan. His best song by far IMO, is What A Wonderful World

Amen, brother Painter. "Live at the Regal" is probably the best live album I've ever heard. I've seen BB a few times at Westbury Music Fair, and he still kicks ass, even in his 70s.

best of Muddy Waters
Muddy is definitely one of the true legends. Paul Rodgers (lead singer of Bad Company and Free) did a whole album of Muddy Waters songs with a lot of great guest guitarists, the album is really good.

As for new blues, I really like Michael Burks. The name of his debut album is "Make it Rain".
