Story of My Life

Bartender won’t you give me a refill
And don’t hold back on the line
Cuz it’s Friday night and I’m ready
Feeling right, damn I’m looking fine

Keep it coming and I’ll keep drinkin’
And everyone will be doing right
But if you cut me off like a woman
You bet your ass, boy, there’s gonna be a fight

Ride on
Ride it, halfway ride

This little number come up beside me
Believe me, boy, she was looking tight
“Bartender, a drink for the lady”
She might be coming home with me tonight

Turn and look at me like I was an asshole
Always tryin to play hard to get
Then she said, “If you’re trying to score man,
I’ll take your drink, but
It’s you I’ll soon forget”

Ride on
The story of my life

One Inch Man, lonely soul...Two Inch Man, gimme more...Always so lonely, lonely, lonely...One Inch Man, he's so lonely, oh, he's breathin'...Damn my thoughts for you, do you really wanna fuck me?...Love my time for you, do you really wanna hold me?...Had my time for you, do you really wanna hold me?...Love my time for you, do you really wanna?

Story Of My Life

High school seemed like such a blur
I didn't have much interest in sports or school elections
And in class i dreamed all day
About a rock 'n' roll weekend
And the girl in the front of the room
So close yet so far
Y'know she never seemed to notice
That this silly school-boy crush wasn't just pretend

Chorus:
Life goes by so fast
You only want to do what you think is right
Close your eyes and then it's past;
(it's the) story of my life

And i went down to my old neighborhood
The faces have all changed, there's no one left to talk to
And the pool hall i loved as a kid is now a seven eleven

I went downtown to look for a job
I had no training, no experience to speak of
I looked at the holes in my jeans and turned and headed back

Life goes by so fast
You only want to do what you think is right
Close your eyes and then it's past;
(it's the) story of my life

Good times come and good times go
I only wish the good times would last a little longer
I think about the good times we had and why they had to end

So I sit at the edge of my bed
I strum my guitar and I sing an outlaw love song
Wonderin' bout what you're doin' now and when you're comin' back

Life goes by so fast
You only want to do what you think is right
Close your eyes and then it's past;
(it's the) story of my life

Write To Me Here

I think it all started with the Declaration of Independence -- the idea that we had the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That pursuit is what took America from the revolution to the computer age in 200 years. But the progress has come at a price. The obvious being the people that were exploited to make it possible; the not so obvious being us, the first group of people that were given no obvious frontiers to conquer. We hear stories that about the good old days that don't seem to apply anymore. It's a generation gap that leaves us without role models. But the bright side is that without role models, there are no roles. Maybe that's what the 60s were all about -- getting rid of the roles. But what do we replace them with? Without any guidance, what do we replace them with? Without any guidance, the choices become overwhelming. Sometimes it just makes everything feel hopeless. So we destroy our bodies in the search of an ideal. Try to salvage relationships that don't work. We feel we must do something, instead of doing something that we feel. It is the prison of self-imposed momentum, and the sad part is that we get used to it. It reminds me of a song I heard the other day. It's called "The Going Nowhere Fast." But the people I have met here have shown me another side of Nowhere. They've pointed out the beautiful irony that stagnation makes it easy to stop and smell the roses, if we just let it. What would we be if we had nothing to rebel against? Well we could finally be ourselves, the first group of people who stopped looking for the answers long enough to appreciate the questions. And all we have to do is to make our own Declaration of Independence. We can embrace the right to life and liberty by simply realizing that happiness exists -- not to pursue, but to accept. After that the only challenge would be to make sure with the rest of our lives that we weren't just another fad. I don't know, it's an idea. What do you think?

Music and Lyrics: Michael John LaChiusa
Scene 4: The College Boy/The Young Wife

I have to --
Relax and --
Just let her --
Sweet Jesus --
Enjoy it --
Stay focused --
Her tongue is --
Her lips are --

I know there's trouble ahead.
Why can't I get it up
And keep it up
Without all the work?
Story of my life.
It's just the sorry little story of my life.

Impotence!
I'd never dreamed it would occur;
That is, till I met her:
The one I think I love.

Let's face the music instead.
I've never worked so hard
To keep it hard --
And then I met her.
And had her.
And then I
Lost interest.

It's her fault.
It's my fault.
To think that stealing someone's
Lonely little wife
Would be the greatest of adventures
In the sorry little story
Of my life...
