I stopped listening to them after Rust in Peace.

Wasn't he originaly with Metallica until they kicked him out?

Rust in Piece was their finest work and imo one of the best albums ever. And yes he was Metallica's original lead guitarist before Kirk Hammett. This break up was loooong overdue. I saw these guys a year or two ago at what was once called the E Center in Camden, NJ (I have no idea what the place is called now). Anyhow the show was utterly pathetic. Megadeth was opening up for Motley Crue for some strange reason and their was practically NOONE there to see them. They sounded good and everything but from the empty house you could just tell it was over.

I don't know the man (Mustaine), but from what I've read and seen of him he seems like a real POS. Their Behind the Music special on VH1 was nothing more than him whinning about being kicked out of Metallica and how pissy and jealous he is of their success. He just seemed like a real sad sack of shit. But what a guitar talent he is (or was). Holy Wars is still my fav guitar riff of all time. They play it a lot on O&A when transitioning between commercial breaks and the show.

This really sucks cuz I'm a huge Megadeth fan. I read in the Ledger that the other band members weren't going to continue on without him so they decided to just end it. He didnt give an exact cause of the inury but said that there was no way he could play again anytime soon. Also i have to agree that Holy Wars is ne of the best riffs ever.

Oh and he didn't quit Metallica, he was kicked out of the band in 82 or 83. I'm not sure which one.

That's a little sad. They had so many more good songs. Like Black Friday, In my Darkest Hour, Set the world on fire, Killing is my business, Crush Em, Sweating Bullets, I could go on. But it is sad that it's over for them. Dave did seem like a bitter guy trying to top Metallica, but he never could, nor could he keep himself clean. Here's an idea that would be the ultimate slap in the face, David Ellefson leaves to become Metallicas new Bassist??? Comments anyone??

That would be quite the drama. I'd love to see it. But I think those two bands pretty much hate one another. I think Mustaine might actually try to murder Ellefson if he joined Metallica. It would be a real hoot.

Their first four albums were amazing, with Rust In Peace being the high point, and one of the best metal albums ever made. Countdown and Youthanasia were also really good, if somewhat more commercialized than previous efforts. Pretty much everything after that was garbage. They should have given it up back in 95.

In response to the guy who talked about the Motley Crue tour, Mustaine has talked about that, and said it was a mess. Motley crue fucked them over bad for money, and the promotional shit got all fucked up
Megadeth is the greatest metal band of all time, and owns Metallica

the whole thing is about the drugs that the band did

and their Behind the Music was considered so good that it is one of only 3 to be released to home DVD
I would suggest picking it up
it's about an hour and fourty minutes, with no commercials, and then interviews that were cut out with James and Lars and a few other people
It tells why some people left the band (which is stupid that the original didn't) and actually talks about where the band is now
Their DVD of this past tour just came out
I'm definitely picking it up!
