What do you think in the most talented band of all time? I personally claim that Nine Inch Nails is the most talented band ever but there are a lot of different opinions on this board.

That is so tough because most people will just choose their favorite band.

When I mean talent, I mean most gifted with their instruments and with their lyrics, their poetry. It can be any genre.

I'd say, it's a toss-up between Rush and Dream Theater.

With Rush, you have Neil Peart, arguably the best drummer ever, and one of the best lyricists ever. Alex Lifeson is an amazing guitarist, often overshadowed by his bandmates. And Geddy Lee, obviously, is a master bassist.

With Dream Theater, you get 5 guys who are simply MASTERS at what they do. All of them were formally trained in their respective instruments (Mike Portnoy went to Berklee Music College, Jordan Rudess went to Julliard, etc.), and when they're not touring or recording, they're giving seminars and making instructional videos.

Anyway, just my two cents...

Tough one. There are a lot of people out there. I think that if you are going to look at just one band, The Beatles probably do take the cake. But,

Lyrics - Bob Dylan or Hunter for the Dead
Percussion - Neil Peart, nuf said.
Bass - Geddy Lee or Phil Lesh
Guitar - Jimi
Keyboards- Page McConnell of Phish

I would definitely have to go with Zeppelin. From Page to Bonham they were all good.

Seriously, that is a tough call.
I'm gonna have to say the Beatles. or the Dead.
They both covered so many styles and had various
influences.

Kwyjibo, nice call with Page on the keys.

Agreeing with Sir O.--- Dream Theater

Isn't most of the stuff from NIN not even made with instruments? I've heard musicians who have played with Trent say that they were really bored during live gigs.

Behind every good man there is a woman, and that woman was Martha Washington man, and everyday George would come home, she would have a big fat bowl waiting for him, man when he come in the door, man she was a hip, hip, hip lady, man.

I've adopted FN, um, I mean Fuggin Moron into the School of Altered Reality...he's a little slow so be nice :)

Instrumentally, NIN uses all different types of instruments. Reznor is a classically trained pianist and I think he is the best lyricist out there. It's just my opinion, but they blow me away.

I'll have to go with the Who. They were so diverse in their music. From "Can't Explain" to "Baba O" you can see how they have evolved as a band.
Also, they were legends off the stage, just look at Keith Moon. The only problem I have with them, like Anthony mentioned on the show, is that they are just too old to continue on, especially without Moon.

Either way they are legendary.
A close second might be Queen.

That's a no-brainer -

Jesse(Camp) & the 8th Street Kidz.

But seriously...

Queen

Dream Theater: Beyond the incredible musicianship, they are also brilliant lyrists.

And the Who: There is no better songwriter than Pete Townshend, no better bass player than John Entwistle, no better(or unorthidox) drummer than Keith Moon and no better singer(agressive or not) than Roger Daltry.

Thanks Jewdown. I was going to put the Dead, but with band like Zep and the Beatles, The Who, Pink Floyd, can you really pin it down to just one?

OK I will agree with NJ Dude that Zeppelin did have some great rocking tunes.

Stairway

No Stairway? DENIED!!

I will also say that Mr.Hendrix by far was the BEST guitar player of all time. ( I know Slash tell me I am wrong)

But when I think best band of all time I come up with Black Sabbath. They have endured the test of time, except of course when they put out that non Ozzy album that just sucked. But there music at the time was just so dark and mid evil I really don't think you can come up with another band that can compare to them. I mean people have tried to SOUND like them and act like them but no one can do it in MHO.

That's a really old blues song by Blind Willie something or other from the 1920s. Zepplin added some nifty breaks to it, but it's really the same song. That's my biggest complaint about Zeppelin...they play old songs and never give the original artist credit. That and Robert Plant and Jimmy Page...lol
