This just started happening when I checked the board this evening.

On EVERY PAGE I am *immediately* redirected to "http://ads.admonitor.net/adengine.cgi?F2312|1001|1|iframe|C|thehellhole||_admonitor" which is a "file not found" page. The only way to view a page on the site is to hit Back, then Stop immediately.

This has happened to me on a few other sites, such as webmillion.com and thesmokinggun.com, and it's why I don't visit those sites anymore. It's always this "admonitor.net" address that fucks me up.

Obviously I'd hate to stop visiting this site, so Jeff -- is there a setting on my IE 5.0 browser that will stop this? Or is it an unavoidable consequence of site advertising plus a fast cable modem??

I have faith in you Jeff! The dickwads at webmillion.com were never able to help me... thanks in advance :)

P.S. I'm now using Netscape and it's not a problem. But I hate Netscape, so if you have any ideas on which setting is wrong in IE...

This is the first time I've seen this particular problem. Obviously the easiest thing you can do is turn off JavaScript. There are also banner ad pop up and relocater disablers on download.com that you can install that might help. Other than that, unless it becomes a more common issue, I really don't know what to tell ya...

I develop hard to navigate websites.

Dan-O, I think I can shed a little light on your problem. The exact issue you are describing was happening to the PCs in my office recently, except the ad site was doubleclick.com.

The address you gave is the address of the banner ad on top of this page. Your pc is having a problem finding that banner ad site and for whatever reason (subliminal message: IE SUCKS ASS) it is trying to redirect you.

I was finally able to determine that the problem stemmed from a setting on my DNS servers in the office. What was happening was, when users were launching a site that had a banner ad from doubleclick, the machine was not able to resolve the doubleclick.com address, and even though it was just a banner ad, it would redirect them to a "page not found" error. I don't know why it takes over the browser that way, (subliminal message: IE SUCKS ASS) but it does.

My point in this rambling is that the problem most likely is coming from your ISP. They may be having a problem with a DNS server. You should contact their tech support people and let them know about the issue.

hmmm... Thanks guys. I'm now using Netscape for this site, but SUCK-ASS IE works for me everywhere else, so sorry Rookie :)

I'm confident Time Warner/Road Runner will be unable to shed light, so I might contact the folks over at admonitor, since one of their other clients caused this problem for me before...
(the good news is I can play that $3 mil lottery again like I used to...)
