OK, my Pentium 700 just ins't cutting it anymore, and with the price of Athlon XP processors starting around $100, I think my next machine will be AMD based. Does anyone have mobo recommendations for Athlon XP processors? I have always been very happy with ASUS mobos, but I was wondering which chipset is the best for the Athlon XP? I would also like it to be compatable with Linux. Thanks in advance.

Let's take a blast to the moon baby

I sit around wishing you well

How I'm craving you, yeah!

Every time I'm near you

I always wanna swallow you down

I'll be right here if ya' need me

In my life, I'll need you here, don't ask why

I'll never disappear

Why is it everyday that I feel the pain?

Let's take a trip to the stars far away

Where were you when I was down?

Staring into the dead

My pain is caused by my pleasure

My soul mate lives in your body

I can't get you out of my head

It never goes away

In my life, I'll need you here, don't ask why

I'll never disappear

In your eyes you can bid me farewell

But don't ever try to understand the situation

Why is it everyday that I feel the pain?

I'd suggest going to a site like
http://www.anandtech.com/
or
http://www.amdmb.com/

I've been looking, but still haven't done anything - I may just buy a system instead of bothering.

I've been considering building myself a machine lately as well, also trying the AMD route. My Dell is still smokin', but Uncle Sam is throwing me a hell of a bone this year in the form of a tax refund, so I thought I'd finally get some stuff together and build myself a sweet machine to toy around with. I know shit about what a good or bad MoBo is, so any thoughts here would be appreciated by me as well.

I'm gonna check out those links when I get home too, but it's always good to hear reviews/recommendations from regualr people - wait, regular people on OA.Com? What the hell am I smokin'? ;)

You can reach me through AIM or email. Feel free to contact me if you have any board questions, techie (PC) questions, or even if you just wanna chat.

And just what did you expect to find here? Something witty??

I just built an Abit VP6, dual P3 gig processors, running great for a month after working out some little kinks. I'd definitely recommend going with an Abit board, KG7, KR7, KT7 are some Abit AMD boards that I've heard good things about.

I just built an Athlon XP 1800 system about 2 weeks ago. The board that I got is the Soyo SYK7V Dragon Plus. It has a Raid Card built in and supports up to 8 IDE devices (4 ports). The board can handle up to 3GB of ram and comes with a front access panel for a smart card reader and two usb ports.

I found mine on pricewatch by doing a search for the board and bought it for $133.00 plus $10.50 shipping.
