Ok, let me preface this by stating what little I know about HTML coding I have learned from either you guys or by using the wonderful VIEW/SOURCE option in IE.

I finally got my RoadRunner Webspace working, and rather than use it as a dumping ground for sig pics, I thought I would actually try designing a simple but fun page. They only give me 5 megs, but I thought I would start small and work myself up (I also plan on using one part of it as sig pic storage, but not a large part since my free AOL page is still working).

My question is - what's a good app to use to design/build pages? Something preferably with as little coding needed as possible on my part (I plan on learning, but I just don't have the time right now). I hear a lot about Adobe Pagemaker, FrontPage, etc. but I wanted to know what you guys thought.

Also, I have no aversion to using a cracked app, so if you know of a site, feel free to shine the light for me :-D.

And no wiseass Notepad jokes - I'm no Av8ter! LOL

I use everything I can get my hands on (for cheap or free). Like you, I could care less how the code actually works. And, I have found that not many app really require you to know anything about html.

I've also found that they all seem to do things a little differently. Some I like to do some things but like others better for those things.

Anyway, if it's a list you're looking for:

Word
Notepad
Pagemill
Frontpage

And, then there are too many specialty programs to list for adding java, flash, etc. Plenty of freeware and/or shareware available in this area.

Start small. Stick to what you know. And, I can't stress this enough, GET ORGANIZED. There's nothing more annoying than a page that takes forever to load because of some stupid gimicky animated bullshit and has no real content.

Hey, lover. :-D

I use Windows 2000, so this is the HTML Editor that I use.

If you are using Windows 95/98 or ME -

Use this version of HTML Editor.

Front Page sucks ass. But, then again, you like that, dear. :-p

I think it all started with the Declaration of Independence -- the idea that we had the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That pursuit is what took America from the revolution to the computer age in 200 years. But the progress has come at a price. The obvious being the people that were exploited to make it possible; the not so obvious being us, the first group of people that were given no obvious frontiers to conquer. We hear stories that about the good old days that don't seem to apply anymore. It's a generation gap that leaves us without role models. But the bright side is that without role models, there are no roles. Maybe that's what the 60s were all about -- getting rid of the roles. But what do we replace them with? Without any guidance, what do we replace them with? Without any guidance, the choices become overwhelming. Sometimes it just makes everything feel hopeless. So we destroy our bodies in the search of an ideal. Try to salvage relationships that don't work. We feel we must do something, instead of doing something that we feel. It is the prison of self-imposed momentum, and the sad part is that we get used to it. It reminds me of a song I heard the other day. It's called "The Going Nowhere Fast." But the people I have met here have shown me another side of Nowhere. They've pointed out the beautiful irony that stagnation makes it easy to stop and smell the roses, if we just let it. What would we be if we had nothing to rebel against? Well we could finally be ourselves, the first group of people who stopped looking for the answers long enough to appreciate the questions. And all we have to do is to make our own Declaration of Independence. We can embrace the right to life and liberty by simply realizing that happiness exists -- not to pursue, but to accept. After that the only challenge would be to make sure with the rest of our lives that we weren't just another fad. I don't know, it's an idea. What do you think?

Pagemill. Easy to use. But I have no frame of reference because this is the only one I've spent time learning to use. I have also heard bad things about Front Page.

Hey, back the fuck off...

I never said I liked frontpage. It's cheap and easy. That's all.

Oh and, speaking of cheap & easy, did I mention netscape composer?

Pagemill...does that work with a drag & drop interface? I seriously know nothing about how to make a page (I just know how to defile them heh). Forgive my ignorance - I'm sure Slashy-pooh will make me ever so dearly for it tonight (in fact, I'm counting on it - what time will you be home sugar? Oh, honey, I am soooo ashamed of you!

How could YOU forget OUR song?!?!?!?!

DreamWeaver

I have just closed my eyes again
Climbed aboard the Dream Weaver train
Driver take away my worries of today
And leave tomorrow behind

Dream Weaver, I believe you can get me through the night
Dream Weaver, I believe we can reach the morning light

Fly me high through the stary skies
Or maybe to an astral plain
Cross the highways of fantasy
Help me to forget today’s pain

Dream Weaver, I believe you can get me through the night
Dream Weaver, I believe we can reach the morning light

Though the dawn maybe coming soon
There still may be some time
Fly me away to the bright side of the moon
And meet me on the other side

Dream Weaver, I believe you can get me through the night
Dream Weaver, I believe we can reach the morning light

Yeah sort of. Aside from a little bit of terminology you don't need to know any html to put together a half decent web site.

Mainly because I thought Dreamweaver had to do with web-graphics, not web build/design (I'm a gamer, not a designer, remember?). I'm lucky I remember our anniversary, let alone our song (just you wait till you see what I bought for us THIS year!! Think liquid latex and loys of anal-ease). It looks like I have some work ahead of me tonight (after our rondevoux, of course).

What's Notepad?

If you're interested in learning some HTML I recommend this site. There's a very simple & informative tutorial there to get you on your way. trust me though, once you start, you'll get hooked.

Also, once you get started and you want to add some pizazz to your site, there is Dynamic Drive. They have a lot of copy & paste dynamic HTML codes that are free to use.

I had to alter it a tad to fit the situation. I didn't see how a packet of equal would have worked into the scenario, LOL.

I'm bringing this back up for a sec.

Does anyone know if the "trial" version of Dreamweaver on mac.com is a full version with just a 30 day time limit, or is it a watered down version with a time limit?

Make sure before you purchase or "borrow" HTML editors, you check the extension capability of your webspace provider.

A lot of webspace providers do not have Frontpage Extensions for web publishing.

I like Frontpage, because it is easy...but there are limits to its grahics capabilities.

Sure, you can just steal it and put it on your new site.

Back on topic, do you have Winrar or Winzip?

For those of you who do know how to code HTML, I suggest 1stPage 2000. It's free, and chock full of bells & whistles. Front page is pretty good if you want to pay the price for it and NOT hosting on a UNIX server.

When i used Frontpage in 1997-8 I thought it was worse than AIDS and cancer at the same time.

I tried Dreamweaver one day. And I never used anything else.

It has a bulit in text editor and WYSIWYG interface.
