| O&A Board Veteran Registered: Jul. 00  | Can anyone tell me how to edit the stored password and stuff in Internet Explorer? Ya know like when you login to this board and you get the drop downs to autocomplete your name and password. I got a little impacient and hit enter with just the "b" filled in and, now my drop down autocomplete thing has "b" and "barch97". I'd like to remove the "b" if that's possible. | Psychopath Registered: Dec. 01 | Clear Forms and Passwords Information in the AutoComplete History To clear forms and passwords information in the AutoComplete settings in Internet Explorer: Start Internet Explorer. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options . On the Content tab, click AutoComplete . Click Clear Forms , click Clear Passwords , and then click OK . This will in effect clear all your autocomplete information. You could also try to edit the index.dat file but that seems more difficult than it's worth.

| O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | Try this : Tools------>Internet Options---->Content In the Personal Information section there should be a button labelled Autocomplete. Click it. There should be a Clear Autocomplete Section, with a choice of Forms and Passwords. This is also the area where you can turn the feature on and off, or specify whether to use it only for web addy's, passowrds, or both. There's a lot of passwords in there that I don't remember because I became lazy and dependent on autocomplete. btw, on a somewhat related topic... The reason I can't remember the passwords is that they are not all the same password. The reason they are not all the same is because some fucking douchebags force you to use stupid fucking douchebag rules when creating a password on their site. Why, for instance, does my citibank.com password NEED to be more than 8 characters? Why does verizon force you to include a number? Why can't the first digit of my bank password be a zero? What the fuck is up with this bullshit? Do these things make my password any more secure? Wouldn't passwords be a lot fucking easier to remember if you only had to remember ONE? Sorry, maybe this should have been an FU... But, any of you that make webpages that have password protected areas, keep this in mind when you set these arbitrary fucking bullshit douchebag parameters. :mad: Long Live the "Syndication Underground" | ||||

| Psychopath Registered: Dec. 01 | Well Barch the reason for long and numerical passwords is for your security. I can hack a password that is under 8 charaters in about three hours. 9 charactors about a day. 10 characters that ups it to about 30 days. Adding numbers to the passwords makes the cracker need to utilize numbers as well as just the letters. Adding ten more variables into the cracking process. Also using real words as passwords is the worst thign you can do. There are many brute force methods to get passwords. Usign a simple dictionary file, a lot of times you can crack the password in about ten minutes. My passwords are all 10 charactors long. And usually in a format like this. passw04D9S Unless it's totally trivial like the zone or something.

Personally, I am scared to death of identity theft (and I don't mean on this board). There are some truly scary stories out there. I try to change all my passwords at least monthly, but it does become a pain in the ass keeping track of them all. It's just something that has to be done. | O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | If your problem is mainly your login info to this board, an easier way to fix it might be to go to yout temporary intenet folder and delete the opieanthony.com cookie. Then reopen your browser, come back here, and your password info should be empty. I am also going to assume that your drop-down menus (for autocomplete) still have "barch97" in there, so double-click the username field, select "barch97" and the pass that goes with it should automatically be filled in - and this should also stay there until you change it. As for the reasoning behind crazy password restrictions, Carson is right on the money. The more convoluted the pass, the more secure the stuff it's protecting is. I've been working at my firm for 5 years, and in that time I've gotten to know people somewhat well - to the point that I can usually guess their NT login pass (I've done it a few times already). Now you can say "well they must use easy passwords for me to be able to figure them out" - and you'd be absolutely right! Hence, the more wacky the pass, the harder to crack. Why even include the first five characters? btw... you can't use that password for some of the sites I use because your password has to start with a number. I am not just complaining about passwords. A lot of fucking stupid ass douchbag sites have similar restrictions on usernames. OK, we're getting way off track here... Obviously it was my fault that we got off track but, anyway... I'm not debating the validity of the longer more complex passwords are more gooder argument. I just find it quite annoying that I am forced to use these restrictive parameters. | Psychopath Registered: Jul. 00 | One way to not worry about remembering all of your passwords (If you don't mind Spy-Ware...) is to get a program like Gator. It stores all of your passwords and auto-complete info for you. It can even save your CC#, but I'm not so sure that's such a good idea.
