| Hanger-On Registered: Jun. 02  | I have a computer running XP pro, i have a laptop with a 2gb partition formatted FAT. The cd-rom is broken and there is no OS on it. I need to grab files from the other computer through DOS somehow with a crossover cable. Any ideas???? | ||||

| O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | Shiiiiiiiiit, well if that ain't a pickle you've gotten into.... The only thing I can think of is an old DOS version of LapLink (I believe it was LL3 back in the day)... this should be able to transfer whatever you want over the proper cable. I know it'll do null-modem (serial to serial) and it might even do parallel to parallel if you're lucky. Two things wrong with this theory. 1) You have to find it. Hopefully someone here will be able to hook you up. 2) I would suggest that you find a 98 boot disk, and boot up the XP machine into a 98 DOS mode, then run LL3 from there. If your XP machine is formatted to NTFS, you will need to have LL3 on not one but two disks, one for each machine, as 98 will not read an NTFS partition. If I had LL3, I'd upload it and post a link, but I don't.... so good luck. EDIT: Two more things.... if you have no floppy drive on your laptop, you're shit out of luck, and if you do, you'll need a 98 boot disk for the laptop too.  New AIM, y'know. | O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | You would have to have LapLink (LL3) running on both machines. LapLink will be able to communicate across the cable, as I described above. New AIM, y'know. | ||||

| Psychopath Registered: Dec. 01 | Is the hard drive itself 2 gigs? Or just a partition on the hard drive? Because if the hard drive is only 2 Gigs, then my friend that laptop must be older than Ertha Kitt.
