| O&A Board Regular Registered: Aug. 00  | The Centers Will Lead the Way Peca Named Captain; Yash, Scatch and Lappy Receive A's (Oct. 3) Just minutes ago, Islanders coach Peter Laviolette gathered his players at center ice at Nassau Coliseum and announced his team's captain and alternates for the 2001-2002 NHL season. Michael Peca is the new captain of the New York Islanders. Alexei Yashin will have an "A" for alternate captain sewn permanently on both his home and road sweaters. Seeking to honor two faithful returnees, Laviolette split the second alternate position. For the first half of the season, Claude Lapointe will wear the "A" for home games and Dave Scatchard will wear it for road games. At mid-season, Scatchard will be the home "A" and Lapointe the road alternate. Laviolette's announcement was met by the hockey salute of players banging their sticks on the Coliseum ice and hugs and high-fives to Peca, Yashin, Scatchard and Lapointe.
