Bonds breaks the home run record, the walk record and will probably break the slugging record all in the same season and in less at bats that Mac. Love him or hate him the guy has had an astounding year. All he needed was one ball in the strike zone and the last two he got he knocked out of the park. He's hit 70 & 71 on two consecutive swings. Congrats to Bonds he deserves it.

ahem make that 72

Bonds just smacked one to center field, a change up down the middle and that was all he needed.

I hope someone comes along very soon to take this record away from him. I hate when assholes wind up getting records. A great player.. yes... But there are a lot of players who go out and do their job, put up great numbers, go to the hall of fame and know how to conduct themselves both on & off the field who in my opinion deserve their names in the record books a lot more than him.

Then you must be dying for the career records for stolen bases, runs scored, walks, and leadoff home runs to be broken.

Froy you took the words right out of my mouth. This is one record that, as the pitching gets worse, and the strength of the batters gets higher, will be broken constantly.

Well you know what i say to people who say bonds is an ass. Hey who isn't could you take the pressure? Just look at what it is like to be asked the same shit over and over on this board and this board is not a 1,000th as significant as the MLB record book is concerned. The guy may be an ass but there are worse people.

But it is what you do on the field not off it. I applauded barkley when he said he was not a role model. Your parents are role models. The guy does his job and better than most.

Look at some of the names in the history books.

Ty Cobb - racist, killed a man for stealing from him, spiked people when sliding into bases and was an all around asshole.

Babe Ruth - he woulda been ridiculed out of baseball for his shenanigans if he played today. Drunk, Womanizer and not the best team mate.

Joe Dimaggio - Just an all around pompus and arrogant asshole

Yogi Berra - hits little kids in the head when they ask for an autograph

Reggie Jackson - ugh do I need to say anything here?

Rogers Hornsby - wife beater, complete jackass and was a team cancer

among others who were just complete douche bags ofcourse our new run king, ehhh

How much less is the 71 ball now? What did the MacGwire 62 ball go for? I'm glad Bond's has got the record, but feel bad for Sosa, times he has hit 60+ homers=3, homerun titles=0.

McGwire is still king in my book. Bonds doesnt deserve shit. And 72 was a goddam changeup? Complete and utter bullshit. why even pitch to him? ah well. Bonds doesnt deserve the record. Even though like u said Gonzo, all those other guys were assholes and douchebags. even so, i still have a great respect for their ability to play the way they did. i have no respect for bonds what so ever. Oh and Joe, McGwires 62 isnt worthless jus cuz his record was broken.

Did anyone watch him cry during the post-game ceremonies? Then he blew off the media for the press conference. Gotta love the Barry.

why is barry bonds an asshole just because he doesnt talk to the media as much? paul o'neil could be considred an asshole to, and even a baby, but i know all yankee fans love him. and jeff kent is as much as an asshole too, but last yr he still won mvp. i don't mind athletes like that because at least they're being themselves and not saying a bunch of stupid cliches. until rickey henderson did that card playing thing, because that wass pretty messed up, i didnt have a problem with him either.

He never said he didn't care about the record he said that getting to the series and winning was more important. So yeah I guess someone is an asshole for wanting his team to win instead of worrying about individual statistics. Yet if he cared about statistics more than winning he'd still be an asshole.

Exactly key points being when he cried on the field it was cause the fans showed him so much love as did his godfather and his team mates. Those tears were real as was his emotion. Cause the fans no matter if they didn't make the post season still loved him. reporters are just leeches who want a story. How many times have we watched reporters hound not just athletes but regular people to get a story. He showed his love to his fans fuck the reporters. The reporters would turn their backs on him in a second if he wasn't belting homers, but his fans would still love him.

Yeah I just watched the post game interview which only solidified my dislike for him.... hearing him say... "Nobody is going to break 73" and that it's all on the owners' backs to make it worth his while to stay in Frisco...

He said he doesn't think anyone will break 73, as Mac said in 98. As ruth said in '27.

Hey No on beefed when Jordan wanted over 30 million for a single season. Everyone said "hey he deserves it as does barry. And it trully is up to the owners look what Krause did to the bulls and look what Cashman did for the yanks in the mid 90's. The owners have a huge task and part in their team.

But my main point is who the hell is anyone to criticize Barry on his life? He is not supposed to do anything but play a game which he does better than most people. He broke several records this year. The slugging is one of the most impressive an 81 year old record set by the babe. No one has ever had over an .800 slugging pct. Only one other man did the babe twice .846, .847 and now barry broke it with .863. He broke the walk record set by the Babe and the Hopme Rum record the same year now that is an amazing feat in itself. With 103 extra base hits only behind Ruth & Gehrig all time.

None of us will ever, never come close to a 100th of a percent in creating the history he did, we can voice our opinions but criticizing him is assanine.
