It was a dirty check. That was a great example. Throughout his whole career he was cheap shot artist. Yeah he had great talent, and played hard. But he also played dirty and alot of times he crossed the line. Thats why I can't respect him.

VOS IS ABOUT AS FUNNY AS OPENING A LETTER CONTAINING ANTHRAX AND GIVING IT YOUR BABY!!!

Rangers emphatically end rival Isles' streaks

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
RECAP | BOXSCORE

UNIONDALE, N.Y. -- Theo Fleury, Brian Leetch and Sandy McCarthy scored in a 65-second span in the first period as the New York Rangers emphatically ended the Islanders' Eastern Conference unbeaten streak with a 6-2 victory Thursday night.

Radek Dvorak, Mark Messier and Eric Lindros also scored for the Rangers, and Leetch added two assists.

The Islanders (11-2-1-1) were 10-0 against conference foes and undefeated at home entering the game.

The charged series is still led -- barely -- by the Islanders, 80-79-17-1, with four games left this season.

After a goal at 2:01 of the first by Alexei Yashin fired up the capacity crowd, the Rangers responded with three of their own, leaving Islanders goalie Chris Osgood hanging his head in exhaustion.

The teams then traded fisticuffs.

Just as McCarthy put back a rebound of Steve McKenna's shot at 10:20, the Islanders' Eric Cairns clocked McCarthy in the face with the heel of his stick.

Fights, gesturing and name-calling ensued and 48 minutes of penalties were handed out to five players -- three Islanders, two Rangers.

Despite 22 saves, many brilliant, Osgood's streak of nine straight games holding opponents under two goals ended.

Richter, also excellent, made 37 saves.

Fleury's goal at 9:15 of the first set the Rangers (9-7-1-0) off on their tear. He corralled the puck on defense and skated nearly the length of the ice before curving his body and stick around the lone defender -- Shawn Bates -- to score from the right side.

At 9:53, Leetch scored his fifth goal of the season, beating Osgood with a wrist shot from between the circles.

Mark Parrish scored his league-leading 13th goal at 3:46 of the second on a 5-on-3 power play to bring the Isles to 3-2. Parrish extended his point streak to 10 games.

But Dvorak put the Rangers back up two goals at 7:34 of the second and Messier and Lindros padded the lead.

Game notes
Islanders defenders Cairns and Ken Sutton were benched for the entire second period and most of the third. ... The Pat LaFontaine Trophy is awarded to the winner of the season series between the Islanders and Rangers, with $100,000 going to the winner's charity of choice. LaFontaine played for both teams. ... U.S. Olympic coach Herb Brooks was in attendance. ... Islanders defenseman Radek Martinek is expected to be out 7-to-10 days with a sprained knee. The Isles called up Marko Kiprusoff from Bridgeport to take his place.

yes francine, it is now 2 losses, but they're still the best team in the east and still better overall than the rangers, and that's all that really matters. (who am i kidding, this would've been a great win)

Wait, there was a Rangers/Islanders game tonight?;) Hey ziggy do you know the worst part? The Islanders have had a fabulous start to the season, have lost 2 official games, and have the most points in the eastern conference, but they are only 5 points ahead of the Rangers. Figure that one out. :)

This had nothing to do with the Opie curse, the Rangers are just a better team than the Islanders and by the end of the regular season that will be seen.
