Well i figured posting this in the coaches thread that i started is pointless, because no one ever responds to it. This is the only article i could find, but i first heard this on ESPN. Spurrier will sign a 5 year, $25 million dollar deal by tomorrow.

*EDIT* Just quoting from my coaches thread to give myself some credit for once :)

Marty did a remarkable job coaching the disgruntled Skins to an 8-8 record after starting 0-5. He probably will stay, but it seems like him and Dan Snyder will get into a war, and if that happens, Marty will not win.

Snyder, Schottenheimer meet twice as negotiations continue

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Washington Redskins coaching situation neared resolution Sunday night as owner Dan Snyder met with coach Marty Schottenheimer for the second time. ADVERTISEMENT

The two met early in the afternoon, then Snyder unexpectedly called Schottenheimer back for a second meeting in the evening.

Schottenheimer, who is also the director of football operations, has met with the owner several times since the Redskins ended an 8-8 season a week ago. Snyder, unhappy with some of Schottenheimer's personnel moves, wants to hire a general manager that would usurp some of the Schottenheimer's decision-making authority.

Schottenheimer's contract gives him the final say over the content of the roster, and he has said he doesn't see a need for a general manager. If he is unwilling to accept a GM under Snyder's conditions -- or if Snyder can't find a general manager willing to work with Schottenheimer -- then Schottenheimer will probably be fired.

The availability of ex-Florida coach Steve Spurrier, whom Snyder pursued before hiring Schottenheimer last year, makes Schottenheimer's situation more tenuous. On Saturday, Spurrier denied reports that he has had contact with Snyder or Redskins vice president Pepper Rodgers.

Possible GM candidates include former Redskins GM Bobby Beathard, ex-Packers GM Ron Wolf and Bruce Allen, son of former Washington coach George Allen and now a special assistant in the Raiders front office. Snyder could also bring back former director of player personnel Vinny Cerrato, who was fired by Schottenheimer.

Schottenheimer signed a four-year, $10 million contract last year. He is unlikely to resign because he would have to forfeit the remaining $7.5 million. If Schottenheimer is fired, Snyder would have to pay off the rest of the contract.

Dan Synder is the biggest nit wit owner I have ever seen. Spurrier is a fool if he goes and works for him.

It's funny cuz Snyder is an asshole.

And could somebody tell me how 8-8 is a failure ANYWHERE else for a rookie head coach? A "Yankees" team is NOT possible in football, you can't just spend all you can and win.

in my opinion, Spurrier has to be the dumbest guy out there. So many teams looking for coaches, and he chooses Snyder? He better not think hes staying for 5 years if he struggles, Snyder will fire his ass so fast and eat the money, because he is a scumbag. Couldntve happened to a more deserving team :)

edit1--Full story.

Redskins fire Schottenheimer, reach agreement with Spurrier
WASHINGTON (AP) - The Washington Redskins fired Marty Schottenheimer on Sunday night after one season and were close to hiring former Florida coach Steve Spurrier as his replacement.

Spurrier and the team have an ``agreement in principle'' on a five-year contract worth about $25 million, a source with knowledge of the Redskins' negotiations said on condition of anonymity.

The Redskins also will hire a general manager or someone with a similar title.

Well, it appears to be done.

Normally I would feel bad for Schottenheimer, but I dont. Nobody put a gun to his head and said go work for Dan Snyder. He knew what kind of a man he was working for when he put his name on the dotted line so here comes the consequences.

But luckily for Schottenheimer his end of the season run will be enough to land him a job elsewhere, which might not of been the case if the Skins continued to struggle throughout the season.

And Schottenheimer would be better off anywhere else, than working for Dan Snyder.

...And now the battle between us and them has begun.

THANK GOD!!!!! I am happy spurrier is going to the redskins. I heard an ugly rumor last week that the Cowboys were thinking about giving him a shot, if that happened I would have to stop rooting for them since spurrier is the biggest piece of shit out there. I cant wait to play them 2 times next year and hopefully run the score up on them. its what that asshole deserves

Spurrier may find life in the NFL tough. The salary cap will make him wish for the days of ago, when on the college level, you only have to pitch to a high school student; tradition. He will not be able to assemble an endless supply of star talent that the college ranks afford.
