I dont know the particulars, but i just heard it on sportscenter thatit was official. GREAT pickup by the Mets to improve the starting pitching, and it paves the way to trading Rusch and Zeile for D'Amico and Burnitz. Astacio will be a good #2/#3 with Estes.

I think Great is overstating it a bit, but as long as we didnt have to give up anything to get him Im ok with it.

Ive never been a big fan of Astacio, but lets see what he brings to the table here.

Astacio's a solid guy, he just had some bad days at Coors field. Any time you can add a solid #2 starter (especially with the way the mets staff looked) it's a great move for the team.

Thanks to Brokenjaw for the sigpic

Moss should have given the ball to his coaches to spike, or at least invited them onto the field to take part in the celebration, because they were the ones who made that score possible. But don't tell that to Randy, it would only take away from the glory he believes he deserves for being as great as he is. Click here for the whole article

Astacio is a solid #2 guy behind Leiter.

I wish I could buy stock in things like "Pedro Astacio will have a better year than Chan Ho Park."

Phillips said Astacio agreed to a one-year deal worth a guaranteed $5 million, including a $1 million signing bonus, $3.5 million in salary and a $500,000 buyout on the 2003 option. An additional $6 million could be earned through performance incentives. The contract includes a vesting option for 2003 that would be worth at least $6 million if exercised.

"It's a rather complicated contract. If he pitches 180 innings he can start to earn bonuses, and if he pitches 180 innings the option vests for the 2003 season," Phillips said.

I'm big on Hits/innings, and away from Coors he did well. Last year was first real injury. If he pitches like he did on road with Rockies, or like he did with Dodgers, he is solid #2 type.

Again, it only cost team money, and from a fan point of view that it best.

He had some rocky times w/ Colorado (no pun intended), and he's coming off an injury. Let's see him do something b4 you pencil him in as a solid #2 guy.
