GO RUTGERS!! They just finished wiping the floor with Syracuse, 82-74, and this makes 2 straight victories over top Big East teams that we usually NEVER beat. UConn got beat the other day, and now Syracuse...I havent felt this good about Rutgers basketball in a long time...actually, i never have lol.

PISCATAWAY, NEW JERSEY (TICKER) -- In his short time at Rutgers, Jerome Coleman has helped the school accomplish something it hasn't done in two decades.

Coleman scored 22 of his career-high 27 points in the second half as the Scarlet Knights upset No. 10 Syracuse, 82-74 in a Big East Conference matchup for their first win over a Top 10 team since February 1, 1982.

Three nights ago, the junior college transfer scored 26 points in Rutgers' (13-7, 5-4 Big East West) win over No. 22 Connecticut. In that game, he had a clutch 3-pointer and scored eight consecutive points over the final four minutes that sparked the Scarlet Knights.

On Saturday, Coleman did it again. With Rutgers down 72-71 with 3:24 left, he hit a 3-pointer that gave the Scarlet Knights the lead for good. After freshman Ricky Shields made 1-of-2 from the line, Coleman added a 3-pointer from NBA range to increase the lead to 78-72, sending the capacity crowd at the Louis Brown Athletic Center into a frenzy.

Syracuse (17-5, 6-3 West) was led by Williams and Preston Shumpert, who each had 21 points. Shumpert sported goggles on Saturday after sitting out the second half of Monday's loss at Georgetown with a corneal abrasion.

your lucky we didnt have Shumpert. But thats still no excuse, Syracuse is so overrated its not even funny. Its a joke that they were as high as #10, but after getting killed by Georgetown and embarrased by Rutgers, they will move down where they belong.

I am not happy with them at all. And I guess its understandable to be very happy if your a Rutgers fan.

EDIT- Ok now that I read the article, I see that Shumpert did play. So much for the ESPN bottom line which said he was out for the next 2 games. Ok so they lost with Shumpert, now Im even more pissed off at this god damn team!!

Not for nothing, but you did have him playing tonight. And i do agree with you, Syracuse is grossly overrated, but that happens every year for some reason. They are ALWAYS ranked up in the top 15, and most of the time they dont deserve it.

This win is very good for the team, and the last 2 wins especially has given the student body, including myself, at Rutgers something to look forward to, seeing that besides Jerome Coleman and Rashod Kent, most of our guys are freshman and sophmores.

was that preston shumpert or jose canseco, playing with those glasses did really hurt preston

but i think the one problem this cuse team has is size in the middle, forth and celuck are rather tall, but they sure as fuck are some skinny white boys, neither of them have a strong game down in the key, and neither of them can take it to the hole strong

the 96 team had Wallace, Reafsnyder, and Hill, all 3 could handle there own down in the key

thats why i dont see this years team going far in the tournament

i wish preston would step up and be a leader

i really do not like the play from the centers, but i do like the promising play from Theus and Duaney

You know who the Orange could use on their team Whack? The guy in your sig.

Remember him as a guy off the bench.

Anyway Syracuse has nobody down underneath the basket. They give up offensive rebounds galore, and if Shumpert, Williams, and Duany arent draining their shots, they are in serious trouble.

McNabb was amazing off the bench, that 96 team was incredible and they had incredible leadership from Sims and Wallace

i look at the bench this year on syracuse and it looks like they have 3 bench players and about 4 walk ons, i look at a bench of a team like Duke or Maryland, i see maybe 2 walkon's at the most

hopefully carmelo anthony doesnt go pro, if he doesnt, then cuse has the #1 college prospect headed to the program next year, hopefully he wont get kicked off the team like there top freshman did this year

bottom line is, they have no meat underneath the basket, i mean if you have 4 guys on a court that can shoot the 3, its nice to have at least 1 that can rebound

i miss Elimu Nelson......

I think its time to recognize Rutgers as a pretty damn good basketball team. 17-8 with 4 wins over top 25 teams, including today beating Miami at the RAC. They arent in yet, but 2 or 3 more wins and they will be. Making the NCAA tourney doesnt look so ridiculous now does it?

They are a decent team, probably not NCAA tourney calibur.

But imagine had Dante Jones not transfered to duke how good they'd be.

If they can beat #10 Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, then in my mind they are in. They are ranked #72 in the RPI rankings, but a big time win on the road is worth something.

They will defintely beat Virginia Tech away and Seton Hall at the RAC, which will be 19 wins. that should be enough, but 20 would guarantee it. Just gotta beat Georgetown in Georgetown, and even if they dont do that, they can win their 1st round game in the Big East Tournament and still get into the NCAA's.

I love the position we are in right now. And if Dante Jones was here, Jerome Coleman might not be here. Keep in mind, he transferred here for a reason...guaranteed to be the man here with Jones gone.

The low RPI is exactly why they won't make the tourney. Western Kentucky is in the same situation, one big win over a very good team, but awful RPI so chances are they will be playing NIT ball.

At large teams rarely make the tourney with an RPI of more than 50, and one win over pitt doesn't mean THAT much to overcome such a low rating.

EDIT: on second glance, Western Kentucky has a far better RPI rating than Rutgers (#42) so maybe that wasn't the best example, but the point stands, i doubt that RU will make the tourney.

The past stats show that Rutgers is in a great position to make it, no matter what the RPI says. When a Big East team has 20 wins and a .500 or better Big East record, only 1 of those teams EVER has missed the NCAA tourney. Their games against Seton Hall and Va. Tech are locks. Even if they lose to Pitt and Georgetown, that would make them 19-10, 9-7 in Big East play. Then, all they have to do is win 1 first round game against a lower ranked team in the Big East tournament...giving them 20 wins.

It dont matter anyway, they can definitely win 3 out of these last 4 games, and will probably win their last 3. Thus then, RPI rating gets better, and Rutgers gets in with a #10 or 11 seed.
