I'm reading on Espn.com and it's saying that York is been traded to Edmonton for Poti and Rehm. Any conformation on this yet?
If the trade is legit, then I'm not sure if I agree. York is a great 2 way player. Not the greatest offensive player but when paired with lindros, he played great. Hopefully this doesn't come back to bite us in the ass.....

Yup,
as per Sportsnet.ca,
quote:

After months of speculation, the Edmonton Oilers have finally moved defenseman Tom Poti and centreman Rem Murray to the New York Rangers for forward Mike York and a 4th-round draft pick, Sportsnet has learned.

“I had been hearing stuff all week, I’m just excited and thrilled that it worked out and I am going to be a New York Ranger.” said Poti.

The Rangers are battling for the last playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

“I am excited to be a part of the playoff challenge, I’ve been a part of it the past few seasons in Edmonton , and I hope I can bring the experience to New York.”

It's on ESPN.com as well... I'm just too lazy and on too crappy a computer to try to copy and paste the article. But yes, the deal did happen.

I knew Sather couldnt keep the smile on my face last for long.

I didnt want to give up York for bure, so you sure as hell imagine that I would not want to give up York for Tom Poti.

I heard that too.

I liked York but I think he was a bit over-hyped. But we'll see, defense was their biggest concern.

Poti is a world-class defensemen and he'll fit in nicely on the blue-line. and no matter how good York is, and I liked him, he was nothing but a 3rd line player.

Completely agree.
Francine, this team needed an upheaval. You know this and we were going no where. True we still might not be going anywhere but losing Mike York is not the end of the world.

And you wouldn't give up York for Bure??
Why not. You couldn't have been happy with the team and losing Mike York is not a big of a deal as your making it out to be.

If Tom Poti is so great than why was he run out of town in Edmonton. Why was he getting booed worse in Edmonton than Petr Nedved does at the Garden?

you may say Im making York out to be great, but your all making Poti out to be Ray Bourque. Id rather have a more intimidating defensemen like Derian Hatcher on this team.

I'd love Derian Hatcher on the Rangers.

Not to argue against myself but would I be surprised if Mike York turned out to be one of the best player's in the NHL? No.

After leaving the Rangers players seem to play on a different level they ever showed as a Ranger(See Alex Kovalev).

Another thing about Poti.

He is touted as an Offensive Defensman.

He has 1 Goal! and 16 Assists.

1 F'n Goal? Even Bryan Berard has 2 goals.

NO!!!!!!!!!

This is a horrible move by the Blueshirts. Why the fuck would Sather even think about trading York, especially for this clown posing as a defenseman. Sather is the biggest fool ever!! And i know he got Bure, but ANYBODY couldve done what he did yesterday, the Panthers werent looking for much.

I want to kill Glen Sather, someone provide me with the guns, and ill do it.

The Oilers got the best of this deal. York is having a great year, Poti is horrible in my opinion, he doesn't hit, he gets stupid penalties, he caughs up the puck lots. Rem Murray isn't a bad 3rd or 4th line player. These guys definently aren't worth York & a pick though.

He was booed because he held out at beginning of year. You don't do that in Canada, especially if you are an American.

He played for US olympics and Herb Brooks raved about him. I wonder about him being an offensive defenseman also with only one goal, but he is 24, and everyone said he is great moving puck. Not a hard hitter, but he does supposedly play tough defense. We will see.

I think they got all that they could out of Yorkie - he always ran out of gas the 2nd half of season, and Poti is an upside guy.

I'm a little skeptical, but Poti was the hot commodity at the trade deadline, so some people feel he has talent.

Add that to the fact that he also started the sease, extremely slow, probably a result of missing training camp, which fucked his popularity even more, and that's your reason he was run out of town and booed. Not because he sucks.

It may have seemed that way for a little while, but later on today the whole Nieuwendyk/Langenbrunner deal was announced, and not for nothing, that's a little better than the Poti deal. Arnott has been a thorn in the Devs side all year long, and to get back two very good, strong players in the deal is a hell of a move by Lamoriello.

i must say i was wrong for doubting lou as he defenitly made quite a deal
i took a nap for a half hour and then nieundyk is on the team
arnott may have had good numbers but he has practically driven the GM's to get rid of him
langenbruner is mckay jr. they got the same with some years shaved off
ill see how things go tomorrow

I didnt say he sucks. I say that it wasnt worth giving up York for an offensive defenseman who has 1 goal.
