What the fuck is going on here, next thing you know Babe Ruth is going to crawl out of the grave and try to make a comeback.

ATLANTA (AP) -- Charles Barkley says he is considering making a comeback next season, perhaps with the Washington Wizards.

``I am still thinking about it,'' Barkley said during halftime of TNT's telecast of the Minnesota-San Antonio game. ``If I get myself in great shape and I feel good physically, I am going to play next year -- but only if I can help a team.

``Right now I am a long way from that decision. Obviously I have to lose another 30 pounds, and if my knee feels stronger I am going to play.''

Barkley, an 11-time All-Star, retired last year after playing 16 seasons. He currently works as an analyst for Turner Sports.

His statement on a possible comeback came one day after Sports Illustrated reported that Michael Jordan was strongly considering a comeback -- a report quickly denied by Jordan and his agent. Jordan and Barkley are close friends.

``I can't control what Michael does. He's a grown man. Michael is Michael and Charles is Charles, but I speak only for Charles. It might be fun to play for Michael. He'd just have to get me under the cap.

``It s a long way away, and when I'm ready to make a decision I'll tell everybody,'' Barkley said. ``I'm just using it as a motivational tool right now. The only way I can get up and work out twice a day for four or five hours is to use that (as motivation). I'm not going to do it simply to lose weight.''

yeah Froy Bob costa just did a small story on that about Jordan returning with barkley and Jordan becoming the executive of the year. If he were to come back beef up the team with barkley get a championship then re retire and go back to ownership.

I also read another article that Michael said hes only working out because he is up to 240lbs and he wants to lose wight.

This unretiring shit has to stop. Every league should make players sign papers when they leave saying that they cannot come back. Enough is enough already.

It was alright when it first started, like one or two guys doing it, but now its like almost everyone who retires just really wants a year off. As far as Jordan, yeah he was great, and he still would be, but there comes a time when these guys should just walk away. Barkley or Jordan or anyone. Become a coach or something.

I agree, it's always seems like too much of a hype thing. Stay or go, it's that simple.

If people have been watching TNT/TBS NBA broadcasts - they would see that Charles had grown quite large and it is sorta like a segment tracking his weight loss.

Charles left after coming back from a leg injury -his last year with Houston (I believe) and not from diminishing skills. He was injury prone in his later years (I think). I would like to see him back since he was a fun player to watch.

I guess people wouldn't be making a fuss if the player sucked, but when they are superstars it gets more attention.

Did Mario leave too early..YES, am I glad he's back...YES. He retired because of a back problem, but his return has been a boon to the PIT franchise and to hockey

Hey everyone i got the answer for why are these guys comin outta retirement. Cuz they saw "Super Mario" come outta retirement and they thought to themselves,"Hey if he could do it, then why not me?" Hey i think Jordan could still do it but he went out in a blaze a glory. Barkley is to outta shape and i think he just wants the publicity. Jordan should just stay in retirement and Barkley should too.

Actually I think its just the mediea hype. I doubt very highly Jordan will be back. He said he was only working out to lose weight and that everytime he picks up the ball and gets a workout in. Some idot has to write a news feature claiming the great ones return. As for Barkley I do belive he does want to return.

I'm the biggest Barkley fan and this guy is all about hype. If we went by everything he said, people would still think he's running for governor. I read in Sports Illustrated that he said he would run for governor during the commercial break when he was on Jeopardy about a month and a half ago. Obviously, that plan has been sidetracked and it takes something pretty big to stop a campaign for the highest office in the state of Alabama. I highly doubt Barkley would turn his attention back to basketball when politics was his focus if something big wasn't on the horizon. Also, don't think he'll come back alone. As for coming out of retirement, of course Jordan should be allowed to return. Bigyellowone, if you had your way, the NBA would continue to wilt and there would be no escape plan. Everyone says media hype like it's a bad thing. Hype's what makes the world go round. Jordan has the opportunity to save the people that made him what he is today. Jordan owes it to basketball.

From what I heard, A Jordan and/or Barkley return to the Wizards would only occur to help fill Jordan's pockets even more. The feeling is, put two hall of famers together, get a year or two from them, use this time to make the team more attractive to free agents, sign a few big name guys to long term contracts, and, there you have it. Jordan and Barkley retire again, and Michael owns a piece of a contending team, rather than a bottom dweller.

The NBA is in trouble. Ratings are down and thugs like Iverson and Sprewell are not exactly what the league likes to promote. Stories about Barkley and Jordan are just that..stories.
The golden days of Magic, Bird and Jordan are gone.
