WASHINGTON (AP) -- After slowly and deliberately working his way through a mountain of words, a Colorado seventh-grader spelled "prospicience" -- meaning foresight -- to win the 75th Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee. Pratyush Buddiga, 13, survived 11 rounds, outlasting 249 other contestants who began the competition Wednesday. He takes home an engraved trophy and $12,000. "I didn't think I really had a chance to win," he said. "I just wanted to be in the top five." Pratyush attends Mountain Ridge Middle School, a public school in Colorado Springs. A first-time competitor in the national bee, he went head-to-head in the final rounds with Steven Matthew Nalley, 14, of Starkville, Mississippi. How does this qualify as a "sport"? | Psychopath Registered: Mar. 02 | I saw this one kid, fat with glasses, who looked like he was about to shit himself. He was stuck for almost 5 minuets on this word. He starts sweating and getting really nervous. He must have asked the judges about 20 questions, and finnaly spelled the word correctly. He went back to his seat with a look of complete domination. He was acting like he just walked back into the dugout after hitting the game winning homerun. | ||||
