WASHINGTON (TICKER) -- Portland Trail Blazers guard Rod Strickland received a 10-day jail sentence on Monday for pleading guilty to driving under the influence.

Strickland was a member of the Washington Wizards when he was arrested for drunken driving on January 7 in northern Virginia. He was waived by the Wizards on March 1 and signed with the Trail Blazers four days later.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Barry Poretz sentenced Strickland on Monday and also placed him under supervised probation for two years and ordered him to attend substance abuse counseling.

It is likely that Strickland will not be required to serve jail time until the Trail Blazers complete their season.

Strickland was convicted of driving under the influence in 1998 and acquitted of a similar charge in 1999.

The 6-3 point guard is averaging 10.4 points and 6.2 assists in 46 games this season, including 13 with the Blazers.

But Portland (47-26) has managed just a 5-8 record since adding Strickland.

Boy, I'm sure that I could not get that kind of treatment, since I am not a professional Athlete.

Must be nice to decide when exactly you serve out your sentence.
