FLUSHING, NEW YORK (TICKER) -- New York Mets outfielder Benny Agbayani will miss three to four weeks and could be sidelined longer after suffering a fractured left wrist during Sunday's game in Montreal.

Agbayani, who has been placed on the 15-day disabled list, was hit on the wrist by Chris Peters. He stayed in the game and was later thrown out at the plate but was forced to leave following the inning.

In six games this season, Agbayani is 5-for-13 (.385) with a homer. Last season, the native of Hawaii batted .289 with 15 homers and 60 RBI in 119 games. He will undergo an MRI on Tuesday to determine the full extent of the injury.

The Mets, who will play the Atlanta Braves in their home opener on Tuesday afternoon, have seen their young outfield struggle with ailments in the season's early going.

Timo Perez strained his left groin on Sunday and Jay Payton struggled through the weekend in Montreal with strep throat. Payton, however, is in the starting lineup for Monday's game with the Braves.

To fill Agbayani's spot on the roster, New York has recalled outfielder Jorge Toca from Norfolk of the Class AAA International League.

Toca, 26, appeared in eight games for New York last year, going 3-for-7 with four RBI, and in 120 contests for Norfolk batted .272 with 11 homers, 70 RBI and nine stolen bases. He had one hit in four at-bats for the Mets during the 1999 campaign.

New York signed Toca as a non-drafted free agent in September 1998

Better Agbayani than Ventura, Piazza, or Fonzie

It's still early. Lets get all this out of the way so when the playoffs come around where ready.

It's a long season, there's 155 games left. A lot can happen over the course of the next five months.
