Now we're down another outfielder....

NEW YORK (AP) -- The New York Mets, already down one outfielder, put right fielder Timo Perez on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday because of a strained left groin.

The move was made retroactive to Monday, a day after Perez hurt himself in the field at Montreal. The Mets purchased the contract of first baseman-outfielder Mark Johnson from Triple-A Norfolk.

Perez was off to a nice start, batting .385 (5-for-13) with one home run and two RBIs.

The Mets, as it turned out, lost two players in that weekend game against the Expos. Outfielder Benny Agbayani sustained a chip fracture in his left wrist when he was hit by a pitch, and is expected to miss 2-to-4 weeks.

Fortunately for the Mets, they had a surplus of outfielders. For Wednesday night's game against Atlanta, they started Darryl Hamilton in left, Jay Payton in center and Tsuyoshi Shinjo in right.

Johnson, who was in uniform for the game against Atlanta, was hitting .368 with two homers and five RBIs in six games for Norfolk.

To make room on the 40-man roster for Johnson, the Mets transferred pitcher Eric Cammack from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day DL.

Remember it could be worse.

Don't forget last year we started with Hamilton & Henderson in the OF, they both left and Agbayani & Payton stepped up to have great years. This could be a chance for Shinjo to step up and Hamilton to return to his old form.

Hopefully Hamilton will return somewhere else. The guy is awful. Tonight is another example of why the Mets will go ABSOLUTELY NOWHERE if they dont get another Bat in that lineup.

And if Alfonzo is going to hit .050. We are Dead!

Don't forget that last year Fonzie was batting in the 3 hole. He's back in the two hole this year, it doesn't sound like a big deal, but it changes things, and will take some time to re-adjust. He'll come around.

The #2 hole is supposed to be where he is most comfortable. He should be back hitting #3. Because Ventura is NOT a #3 hitter, and Zeile certainly is not the man you want protecting Piazza.
