Lennox lewis will be defending his heavyweight crown tonight on HBO. The fight will be taking place in africa as part of lewis prmoise to nelson mandela to have a fight there.

The fights start at 10 pm on HBO, lewis will be facing Hasim Rahman. Rahman is a tough verteran fighter who got robbed in a decision against David Tua. Lewis beat tua last november in pretty much a shut out fight.

The fight will be aired live in the states which means that the fight will actually be taking place at 5 am in africa. There is also a question about the altitude which will take its toll on both fighters. Should be a good match and definetly worth watching.

Holy shit! That was the best heavyweight punch I have seen in a long time! Lewis was cocky the whole fight...... until his ass was laying on the canvas! USA! Is it just me or did Lewis look well overweight? Now the question becomes, who will get the first piece of the new heavyweight champ?

LENNOX LEWIS KNOCKED THE FUCK OUT IN ROUND 5.

just minutes ago holy shit lewis got knocked out cold in the 5th round.

We have a new champion and his name is Hasim Rahman. Lewis was obviously out of it by round 4 and was being outworked. He dropped his hands after being driven across the ring by 4 jabs and got knocked the fuck out for a clean 10 count.

Amazing the boxing world has just been set on it's ass. I bet that tyson fight is gonna start looking better and better for lewis mr. no one can beat me.

If rahman whipped lewis's ass with such ease what would even a broken down emotional tyson do to him?

if they are smart they go for rahman vs ruiz to unify the belts again. Rahman would have no problem with ruiz who go ko'ed by tua in 19 seconds.

Rahman will not be having another superfight though until he goes through maybe 1 or 2 tune ups. He just knocked out fuckin lennox lewis.

But there will be excuses, the fact that they fought at 5,700 feet above sea level, lewis was definetly carrying extra weight. He was at 268 last week and dropped 15 pounds in a week which is what did in ali in his last fight with holmes when he lost almost 40 pounds in one month. But there are no excuses the man got knocked out clean no decisions no bullshit.

Rematch clause which means if lewis wants it he will no doubt 100% get the rematch. But if lewis goes the route of delahoya and does not take the rematch then we will see that lewis what we all knew he was a glass jawed champion.

You had to know that those little seemingly harmless short hooks to the body that Rahman was throwing every time they tied up would take their toll. With that elevation, body shots are crucial.... Lewis was looking tired between each round..... but who'da thought he would get cold cocked?

It's an HBO fight, which means it will be on several times, probably on tomorrow morning on HBO Plus.... if you get HBO west, it may be on there , the undercard starting in about an hour.

i don't have HBO plus so i don't know but as an avid boxing maniac. HBO does not replay fights unless they took place on PPV.

But this is what happens to all great fighters and champions.

The only reason Rocky Marciano was the only undefeated world heavyweight champ is two reasons. They didn't call him the brockton shithouse cause he stank. But you could hit rocky with anything and he wouldn't give in.

BUT he trained 7 days a week 365 days a year, he trained wether he had a fight or not. He never thought of himself at champion. He thought of himself as a fighter who could not possibly fathom the idea of losing a fight.

All the greats get cocky in their own ego's. Ali, Tyson, Frazier, Foreman, Delahoya all of them.

Lennox approached this fight with ease. he went to africa late, and he thought he would have a relatively easy time with rahman. he paid the price for being cocky, but he said he definately wants a rematch.

well hopefully we see the rematch but i am not really demanding of it like other fights. Because there is no controversy in this fight. It would be entertaining but i would like to see the belts unified and i'd like to see lewis fight tyson now.

Even if it's not for the belts just to see if he could beat him. Tyson now has a huge advantage, lewis may have kept his head up but he is a broken man now. he just lost the championship of the world in a fight everyone thought he'd win.

I knew rahman deserved the shot cause he was robbed in his defeat to Tua.

Delahoya was screaming bloody murder after he lost to mosley but he has blown off two chances at a rematch.

Ok, I looked it up, and for those who do have HBO Plus, it is on tomorrow morning at 8 a.m....... VCR alert for those late risers.

As for Oscar, he needs to stop crying.... I used to love him, but he got cocky..... he looked horrible in 4 of the five "victories" he had before he fought Mosely, and in my opinion, he lost at least two of them, but received very liberal "Champions" scoring. If he decides to get serious again, and show a willingness to work, he can once again be great.

Well the rematch clause states that Rahman can fight once before the rematch.... that would enable Lewis to fight Tyson for the big money, and even if he loses to Tyson, he gets another shot at the title..... should he win back the title, that sets up a huge Tyson - Lewis fight for the belts and huge money.

It was just replayed on HBOPlus at 8:30am. I turned it on just in time to see Lewis get knocked out. It looked like he was about to cry when it finally hit him(no pun intended) that he lost. Not a big boxing fan but when I saw on ESPN that Lewis lost in the 5th I had to see what happened.

To quote Brian Regan, "Can life get any better? I submit that it cannot!"
First, Prince "Cocky Asshole" Naseem gets his ass handed to him and now this with Lennox Lewis.
I didn't watch the fight since I expected it to be a cakewalk for Lewis, but when I read the paper this morning and saw the headline "Shocker! Lewis loses title." I nearly shit my pants. Well, I normally almost do that everyday, but today I had a reason. ;)
The question now is what does this hold for the heavyweight title picture. Will we see Tyson or Holyfield make a run at it again? Will Lewis prove this fight to be a fluke and regain the belt? Or will there be a new top dog in town for a while?

how the mighty have fallen.

I remember a couple years ago, Ring magazine did a cover story on "who will fall first"

since them almost all of them have.

Some of the names included

Holyfield - lost to lewis and ruiz
Hamed - lost to barrera
Delahoya - lost to mosley and trinidad
Vargas - lost to trinidad

and now Lennox Lewis has fallen to Hasim Rahman.

All of this in a span of 1 year actually not even a year.

Rahman will probably not face tyson for a number of reasons.

1- the money is not there yet, the Lewis Tyson Fight was going to be the biggest ever. The estimated purse for both fighters was around 35 million each.

2- Tyson is schedlued to fight David Izon in June, fight is signed

3- This is the biggest reason, Rahamn fights for HBO just like lewis. This was why the lewis tyson fight has been taking so long. Tyson fights for showtime and lewis/rahman fight for HBO.

The biggest problem with that is this. Who gets the PPV rights? HBO or Showtime?

Look for rahman to take on lewis right away because he will not take the chance of losing his title against someone like maskaev or chris byrd for 4 million or 5 million. When he can get 15 million for a rematch with lewis.

I knew rahman deserved the title shot, because rahman was robbed against Tua. Like merchant said it was shades of tokyo in 1990. Lewis was making films and getting fat like tyson was.

But i see lewis winning the rematch.

Do not expect lewis to fight tyson before he fights rahman again. And do not expect Rahman to Fight tyson, unless rahman beat lewis again, cause there will be no rubber match.

But i wouldn't be surprised if rahman took on ruiz who was KO'ed by Tua in 19 seconds. Ruiz beat holyfield earlier this year for the wba belt which lewis was stripped of.

But all in all the boxing world has just been set on it's ass.

Advice for The Rock: Look to Iron Mike
By JEFF CAPELLINI
AP MegaSports Writer
April 24, 2001

Hasim Rahman is further proof that America is the land of opportunity. Now it's time for him to do what most of his compatriots would: capitalize on his success for as long as he can, cashing in at every stop along the way.

In other words, the same right hand which floored IBF and WBC champion Lennox Lewis in the fifth round on Saturday should grab a pen and sign his name on the dotted line as soon as possible. Right next to Mike Tyson's.

Lewis has a right to a rematch, but ``The Rock'' now controls when and where. The real question, however, is why? Why would Rahman so quickly jump back into the ring with Lewis, who surely won't make the same mistake twice.

While a rematch with Lewis would be intriguing, it would likely pale in comparison to what boxing's biggest draw, Tyson, could provide at the gate. Just as importantly, a fight against Tyson just might allow Rahman to hold onto his titles a little while longer.

Rahman will give Lewis his mandatory rematch, but on his own timetable. The Baltimore native has already said he wants to fight Tyson, who will fetch him millions more than anyone else.

According to Tyson adviser Shelley Finkel, what Rahman wants is irrelevant. By rule, Rahman is bound to take on Tyson, the WBC's top-ranked contender.

``Rahman inherited the WBC mandatory defense, and Mike is the mandatory (challenger),'' said Finkel, perhaps forgetting that this is boxing, a sport where rules are seemingly made to be worked around.

A Rahman-Tyson matchup, unthinkable a few days ago, would pit arguably the most enigmatic fighter in history against an upstart who suddenly finds himself emerged in celebrity but whose background is mired in mystery.

Prior to the upset, the big sticking point in a Lewis-Tyson fight was television. Lewis is tied to HBO, while Tyson is under contract with Showtime. Rahman, 28, changed all that and is now in position to do what he wants because he has no commitments

Stan Hoffman, Rahman's manager, is hoping Tyson is ready to get in the ring.

``All along, Tyson has said 'Lennox Lewis, Lennox Lewis', so does he want to fight us now?''

Tyson, who will be 35 on June 30, said the sooner they get it on, the better.

``I will fight him anywhere to make my dream of regaining the heavyweight championship a reality,'' said the former champ, who first must take care of David Izon in a 10-round bout June 2 at Washington's MCI Center.

Tyson, the victim of one of the most stunning upsets ever when he lost the undisputed title to little-known Buster Douglas via knockout in Tokyo in 1990, had been generally unimpressive of late before hospitalizing Andrew Golota last October in a performance that reminded some of the Tyson of old.

He knocked out journeyman Frans Botha in January of 1999 prior to a no-contest with Orlin Norris later in the year. On Jan. 29, 2000, he stopped overmatched Julius Francis in the second round before pummeling Golota in the fall.

But with his advancing age and ring rust, attributed in part to his time in prison in the mid-1990s, Tyson is not feared as much as he used to be. While he's still capable of a one-punch knockout, the past decade has done little to further his legacy as one of boxing's all-time greats.

He lost by TKO to Evander Holyfield in their first meeting before embarrassing himself in the infamous rematch highlighted by his biting of Holyfield's ear. Other than Holyfield, the quality of Tyson's opponents have been questionable, yet he's lost twice, been disqualified once and has had a no-contest.

Rahman is young and obviously hungry. He arrived in South Africa one month before the fight with Lewis primarily to acclimate himself to the 5,200-foot elevation and did not get intimidated by his more polished opponent. He took the fight to Lewis when it became evident the Brit wasn't interested in throwing his trademark jab.

The new champion will not be intimidated by Tyson, either. Rahman went toe-to-toe with the bigger Lewis and fired power shots at will. While he did leave himself open to countershots, which would mean trouble against a younger Tyson, he was relentless in throwing his big right hand.

That being said, bypassing Tyson and granting Lewis an immediate rematch could be disastrous. While Rahman threw the punch which won him the belts, Lewis was the one who set the stage because he overlooked what he thought was an inferior opponent.

Lewis, who said all the right things following the loss, will not make the same mistake twice. At 34 and still widely regarded as the best in the business, he would not come into a rematch anywhere near the 253 pounds he weighed-in at on Saturday. He would, however, come in with a strategy for Rahman's haymakers.

Rahman, who staggered Lewis with a right earlier in the decisive round, admitted the knockout punch that changed his life -- and the heavyweight division as we know it -- was something special.

``I came up with one punch. One punch. Luck is being prepared when opportunity presents itself,'' he said.

I like the way you stay on attack
No matter what, I keep coming back
And how you try to hold me down
But you end up driven to the ground ...
And that you say you will pray for me
You realize you are prey for me
