Ok well for years I used to say that Scottie Pippen was the luckiest human being on earth. MJ completely made his career to the point that some people used to call him the second greatest player on earth. But I think it's time to hand the title over to Vince Carter at the moment. He barely edges out quite a few others in my mind (Mutombo and Bryant to name a few. Just because the guy could probably jump over the backboard people make him out to be something he's not. Don't get me wrong, he's a real solid player, but nothing near what NBC and ESPN and such make him out to be.

vince carter? nah man, he is the only reason the raptors are in the playoffs, i think the most overrated player is Jason Williams from the Kings, everyone blows him up since he is kinda flashy. but he makes a million turnovers and forces alot of shots. just my opinion.

Kobe Bryant. He is very good, but in his head, he is better than Michael Jordan.

Jason Williams is very overrated too, but Vince Carter has done absolutely nothing in 6 Playoff Games in his career. Vince Carter is becomming the Barry Bonds of the NBA.

Francine, the Post did an article about Vince Carter in the playoffs last week. You cannot really tell because the only team he has played in the playoffs is the Knicks who are a very rough and tough defensive minded team.

Very good choices so far w/ Jwill and VC. I'd give the edge as most overrated to Carter just cuz all the amazing amount of hype he's gotten.

Vince Carter isn't really overrated he is just the Barry Bonds of the NBA. As for Jason Williams he is more flash than skill.

I have a couple things to say about who is the most overrated player in the NBA. First of all, i do not at all think Pippen is overrated. He is just in a bad situation in Portland. Jason williams on the other hand isnt overrated because no one thought he was good after his first two years. The reason he is popular is because of his attitude. There was a great article in SI about how he is the only superstar with stats so bad. I think vince carter is the most overrated player. The only reason is he doesnt do good in big games. You cant say that about kobe, shaq, kidd, or anyone who receives the amount of attention he does.

Ok well if u think he's in a bad situation in
Portland than what was his excuse when he was with
Houston???? He was just as bad, if not worse
while playing there. And about Carter having to
play only the Knicks so far in the postseason, i
think that's not exactly the greatest of excuses.
First of all he almost always plays great egainst
them in the regular season and it's his decision
making so far in these 6 games. Like that shot he
took at the end of Sundays game, what was he
thinking????? And last year he had McGrady
carrying him as well in that series and he still
couldnt do anything!!

I keep thinking Kevin Garnett is overrated. He is a great player and all but maybe it is just the team he is on. They can't do dick in the playoffs.

The league as a whole is overrated. The games are insanely boring, and the only white guys worth rooting for are foreign. I, in no way, can relate to the black guys (growing up in the hood, being a father at 14, and skipping college because I can't get a 700 on my SAT's) so they're not worth rooting for.

I think I would give my left testicle just to see this league fold.

Aside from that comment, I agree with Nyquil on the NBA at least becoming too boring. It has very much become an game of individual play rather than teamwork, which is why we often see only one or two guys in double figures on each team's stat sheets.

As far as the to who the most overrated player is, I would give the nod to Rasheed Wallace, because he is a remarkable talent who is holding himself back from reaching his full potential, and that attitude of his is what costs his team wins.

Another reason why the NBA Is boring is because 43 minutes of the game are meaningless until the last 5 minutes. Who cares what happens in the middle, you can be down 15, but the next minute you can be down 3. Their are so many points scored in the game. In contrast in Hockey. Every point of the game is crucial because every goal can be the difference in the game.

Yeah but if thats the case then how come college
basketball is still so exciting even though it's
constantly getting depleted of all its big stars?
The problem with the NBA I think definitely is
the style of play. You watch some of the games on
Classic Sports and the ball almost never touches
the ground. The Knicks team that won two
championships was one of the greatest passing
teams of all time. That kind of game is fun to
watch. But now the leagues has turned into clear
outs for the superstars while everyone just stands
around and watch. And if not that, then you also
have guys like Mason and LJ who basically just
hold the ball for 16 seconds, drive to hoop, get
triple teamed and throw the ball away. Hopefully
with the form of zone defense they're allowing
next year it'll help liven up the game again and
put an end to all this 1-on-1 crap.

Overrated....Keith Van Horn

Underrated....Kurt Thomas

I don't know how anyone can say Bryant or Carter are overrated...Jordan didn't win as soon as he came into the league. Bryant esp. is going to be a special player once he realizes how lucky he is to play with Shaq.

First you play only about 35 games a year, so every game counts. Second they don't get paid (no legal contracts). Third, the conference schedule. All you do is play rivals after the first month. That's why it was exciting.

Probably the most exciting NHL season in recent memory was 1995 after the lockout. Why you say...48 games against opponents in your own conference. More games against your rivals makes your season much more exciting.

Definately most overrated has to go to Jud Buechler. I mean he leads the Bulls to 3 championships and then becomes one of biggest free agent pick ups in NBA history by the Pistons and once he gets there, nothing. Come on Jud! Detroit signed you for a reason!

Ill leave Kobe out of this. How can you say Vince Carter is overrated? Well because he is hyped to be the second coming of Michael Jordan, and he not only doesnt live up to that potential but he has played 5 awful Playoff games out of 6.

And sure Michael Jordan didnt win Championships in the beginning of his career, but He Had BIG!! games and led his team to playoff victories, like scoring 63 against Boston, and that game winning shot over Craig Ehlo in Cleveland. He also beat Pitino's Knicks in 89 before falling short to the Bad Boy Pistons. Jordan didnt start winning Championships until Phil Jackson came aboard and Scottie Pippen came into his own.
