This comes from Yahoo Sports.
quote:

FORT MYERS, FLORIDA (TICKER) -- The Boston Red Sox hope this is not a sign of things to come for David Cone.

The veteran righthander was pounded in his first appearance for the Red Sox, allowing five runs over two innings in a 7-1 Grapefruit League loss to the Texas Rangers.

Trying to earn a spot in Boston's rotation after leaving the New York Yankees and signing with the Red Sox in the offseason, Cone (0-1) surrendered three hits, including a pair of homers. He gave up a two-run blast to Rafael Palmeiro and a solo shot to Frank Catalanotto in a five-run first.

All I have to say is...

AAAAHHHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAH!!!!!!11

Way to pick up a dead arm Red Sox. :)
Don't get me wrong, I thought Cone was great and loved him on the Mets and Yankees, but he should have seen the writing on the wall last year and called it quits.
Now he's just gonna look like a pathetic old ballplayer trying for one last shot at glory. I hate to see great players go out like that.

In a way I feel bad for Cone because he was a big part of the Yankees for a few years, but to go to Boston is retarded to begin with when he damn well should have retired. Go SAWKS!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

It really is a crying shame that Coney thought he had another few years in him. I really wanted the 36 hung up in Monument Park. He really was a true Yankee, something Clemens can never be.

And Thats The Bottom Line.....

Man fuck Cone. He is a back stabbing piece of shit. I liked him on the Mets & Yanks too, but he over stayed his welcome in the MLB. He should of just retired on top two, TWO years ago.
Oh and Sean Cold, that pic is way better than the one before.

Hey look. I finally learned how to use the EDIT button!!!

What he should do is move to the bullpen. He could be a great short work guy. It saved Dennis Eckersley's career.... Think about it, 1 inning every two or three days would be fine for his old arm. Or use him only against certain batters, as a specialist

Froy has a good point. Cone WAS an excellent pitcher on a great team. He had unbelievable stuf for many years and realized the PINNACLE of his talent when he tossed the perfect game for the Yanks. He could definitely be a late inning SET-UP
man out of the pen simply because he knows HOW TO PITCH.........J/M/O

The sad thing about Cone, is that he is gonna go down like the player he said he didn't want to be. A couple years ago (before his perfect game) he said he didn't want to be an old timer trying to prove his worth. That is why he signed 1 year deals. Now, he is just hanging on trying to prove that he still has what it takes to thrive in the majors. He lost it years ago. All I have to say to Cone is, "Punch out!"
