I mean what do you expect?? The guy is 83 years old, his body ravaged by Parkinsons disease and he kept up a rather grueling travel schedule over the 25 years he's been Pope. It's too bad he really can't pick a succesor and just pack it in, like the Cardinals and Bishops can.

Say your prayers folks

Anyone wanna take bets to see if he'll make it till Christmas??
So, the man who is supposedly the most devoutly faithful and holy of all Catholics will eventually die a sickly and probably painful death.

That's a great God we believe in, huh? Rolleyes

So do you take the more orthodox view that we must suffer for our faith?

Do you find it fair that, for all his spirituality, that he is being made to suffer this way, while those of decidedly less moral convictions continue to lead healthy and wholly counter-productive existences?

Health and Religion are two compltely seperate things.

I don't even see the relevance in what you are saying.

The Pope is an old man, he suffers from ailments that most seniors his age do.

What does it have to do with Faith?...because he is a man of the Church that he should live any differently than let's say a man his age in a Nursing Hoem in Florida?

Come On,.

On the contrary, health and faith are very much intertwined...

if not, then why would Jimmy put

in his opening post?

The entire purpose of organized religion is that if we frail, mortal humans place our faith in the unseen diety, He will return the favor by taking care of us-- physically, emotionally, and mentally. Read the Bible, brush up on what is known as the Covenant. Basically, it's another term for a contract, an agreement between two parties for exchange of goods and/or services.

In this case, our unwavering faith for His protection and love. Those who are most faithful, the people who can uphold their end of the Covenant the most, are the ones who should be most blessed; those who do not, should be cursed.

If the Pope is the person we Catholics feel most personifies the Covenant, as the most faithful among us, he should likewise be most blessed. These illnesses question either his level of faith, or the level of commitment that the unseen deity is using to uphold His end of the contract.
I'm sorry but i am not that kind of Catholic. You're mistaking me for someone who actually knows in depth about their specified Religion.

All i know is of what i was brought up to be, broken down in my household we did not follow alot of the offset rules of our Church and everything was jumbled up and taken here and there.

I can't debate with you a religion of my own that i can hardly explain. And if i tried it would take almost 16 years to do it, maybe longer since i have yet to grasp my own, persoanl concept of what it all means to me.

So i think argueing a faith i dont compltely understand for the most part would be unfair to both you and i.
It's quite all right, hun. Debates over religion and faith have been waged for several millenia, and no resolution has ever been reached.

Why should we waste our time on it?

I'm not overly religious. Haven't been in years. I was also being somewhat sarcastic when I mentioned saying your prayers. What amazes me about the whole situation is that this guy can't retire like most other men of faith can. Another example was Cardinal O' Connor. This guy was not allowed to retire.

I'm not going to get into the whole faith thing but if I am not mistaken that there are plenty of stories and jokes about how religious people, be they layfolk like you n me, or priests and nuns and rabbis and such have to suffer. I just don't know how much longer this guy is going to last. For many, he is the only Pope they know.
Believe in what you will. You're still going to die, and we're watching a devout believer die a fairly brutal one. Though there's worse. I've seen good people die of worse.

Believe in nothing. You, also, are going to die. Same goddamn way. Good or bad, brutal or not.
