LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Rod Roddy, the television announcer known for colorful jackets, a booming voice and his trademark call of "Come on down!" on the game show "The Price Is Right," has died at age 66, CBS said on Tuesday.

Roddy, who got his TV start as the narrator on the ABC comedy "Soap," died Monday in Los Angeles of prostate, colon and breast cancer, the network said in a statement. He was first diagnosed with colon cancer in September 2001.

Born Robert Ray Roddy in Fort Worth, Texas, Roddy was with "The Price Is Right" since 1986, following a long career in local radio across the country.

Private funeral services are to be held in Texas, with a Los Angeles memorial in the coming weeks.

"Americans came to know and love Rod's distinctive voice, but it is his heart and spirit we will most remember," Katie Couric, "Today" host and co-founder of the National Colorectal Cancer Research Alliance, said in a statement.

HAHAHAHAHAHA

If jews believed in hell, I'd think I'm heading straight over.
That's so horrible that you laughed at that.

Though, you managed to make me cackle at the fact that you laughed at something like that due to pure evilness.

How old is bob barker in his 80's, I can't believe rod is gone but bob is still alive. Don't know about you but i think bob is the devil, the price is right will never be the same again.

Fairwell Rod
Not to take away from the mans death, but this is the second announcer that Bob Barker has outlived. Rod Roddy replaced Johnny Olson in 1986, after Olson died, the original COME ON DOWN guy.
