Anyhoo, if you're going to a bar to pick someone up, chances are you aren't looking for "that special someone". You wanna get laid. In which case, you go for the hotter person, who wouldn't rather fuck the hotter of the two? And as far as only achieving "friend status" that's a good thing. I think I'm much more likely to develop feelings for someone I already know to be the good guy than someone I just met. Girls go for the "bad guy" cause he knows how to make himself look like the good guy at first. And then he makes them feel like she needs him, and can't get anything better.
I'd like to think I'm the kind of girl who can carry a conversation, support herself, etc. I wouldn't say I'm a knockout by any means, but I'd also like to think I'm not hideous. But just like SA said, if ever I go out with girls that are clearly more attractive than I am, they are the ones who get "picked up". Such is life.
