A lot of 'chatter' and claims of a 9-11 style attack. Supposedly they are hyping it up to be as bad or worse. Supposedly using passenger or cargo planes from other countries. There was also some speculation around claims of a femal suicide bomber planning something around new years eve.
It boils down to this. there are credible threats of all levels made or speculated about every single day in this country. Before 9-11 there was a not totally specific threat about a large attack. People cried about why weren't they made aware of this possible terrorist threat. Henceforth, the color alert system has been formed. Now when the threat level gets raised (just as a way to say hey if you are going traveling or maybe you are going to be in a large group of people in the city maybe you should express some caution) people just shrug it off as a joke.

Nothing wrong with erring on the safe side. I'd rather be warned than surprised. I'll have to check to see if they have the National Guard back out by the power plant this morning.

I think something is going to happen, sometime soon, but no way will it be during the holidays. Security is WAY too high, those dumbasses would never get away with it. It will be during a lull in our attention.
I suppose some of you have done the Times Square New Years Eve thing how crazy is the security up there that someone with bombs attached to their bodies wouldn't be able to slip into the crowd?

Well, how does a system designed to warn people from travelling and congregating in large areas like shopping malls help the economy (or at least that's the net effect)?
Granted, the color coded system IS pretty bad, but it also has to play to the lowest common denominator.

I truly doubt that duct tape and lumber purchases by an handful of crackpots will offset any economic damage done by the heightened alerts. In fact one of the reasons that the OHS was so careful about raising it this time because the local governments were complaining about the costs.
