So I am in a dilemma.
I am going to network my two PCs (one home PC and one webserver/ftp server/database server/etc..) and my PS2 in my house. But how to do it?

I don't think I can use a regular hub anymore. ISPs have gotten smart and only give one IP per modem.

I was thinking of using a PCrouter (one PC with 2 NICs, one inbound and one outbound to a hub) but I heard they don't work well with VPNs.

So that leaves me with a router (specifically Linksys). but how will it work with my VPNs and my programs for work. And how well will it work with detecting ports that need to be open. All these questions.

The Linksys router is on sale this week at Best Buy so that's why this issue is coming up.

Any suggestions?

Wow, that was helpful. Im not sure what to tell ya Ronin, I just know I have no trouble with my linksys router with my ps2 and my recreational use pc.

i am not really worried about the ps2 and the home pc.. just really worried about my VPN and my work programs.. those require some wierd port configurations.. so i was hoping someone used a VPN program with a router..

when using vpn to log into my school network for stuff it works fine. i used to have a linksys and now use a dlink. actually haven't tried it with the dlink yet. with linksys its really easy to open ports, so if theres ever a problem you just find out the port number and open it up.

awesome.. you just put my mind to ease.. i am going to go buy the router at best buy when i get out of work.

hopefully my other programs (TOAD, Oracle Reports, Lotus Notes, etc.) work also.
