but he said DJ's are artists, and most just play records.

most cover bands have thier own songs to go along with the songs that they cover.

Yeah I am not saying just anyone can do what a DJ does. It takes a certain amount of skill to make the records flow in a continuous stream. But when it comes down to it they are just playing something someone else did , just like a cover band.

Most just play records?

Maybe I meant more of a producer, like the Neptunes, or Trackmasters, or people who make the beats. Are THEY artists?

If you personally believe their product to be art.
I do, I do!
they are producers, engineers. they are very much artists.

The sound of a Mac Truck running over Puff Daddy's dense cranium over and over, would certainly be music in my ears. I would dare call the truck driver an artist.
Damn, I must be one of the few people that actually likes Diddy. Granted, he would of been nothing without Biggie, but who knows what Biggie would of been without Puffy. And he has made some of the best jams ever. Flame away.
he sucks as a rapper, he's a pretty good producer.
He's a criminal, end of story.
I agree, shitty rapper. Excellent producer.

Hes a criminal, yeah and? So am I. Your point?
Before the great big bloated one was shot, Puffy seceretly recorded Biggie having a bowel movement. I hear he mixed it and layed down his trademark "yeah yeah, yo, yeah" lyrics over it and will be releasing it as yet another Biggie & Puff album.
