Regarding the caliber of person who joins America's Armed Forces, The Man is simply wrong.

Your statements would have been 100% dead on from 1975-1990, but in your ignorance you have successfully branded yourself as a jackass. First of all these people were reservists. That means they have regular jobs, requiring regular educations, and regular social skills to interact with others in the process.

These people have been called away from their families, their jobs, and the fun little country they lay their asses down to defend so you and I can have luxury of mouthing off at will. Military service is no longer a last resort, it's a pre-career option that helps pay for college and brings young people into the real world very quickly.

I guess when you're spending Saturday nights grabbing 2 hours of sleep in the sand after a long day of serving your country, rather than trolling for fat chicks at some frat party on daddy's dime that makes you an asshole.

These prisoner's have rights. It is the responsibility of their captors to ensure that those rights are upheld. They were not. Those who violated those rights need to be dealt with swiftly.

After the shit that these soldiers have gone through, watching the death, bombings, attacks, and other assorted bullshit during the course of their day......putting some asshole criminal in a dress, or a cheerleader pyramid, or even pointing at their junk, proved to be some form of escape from the horrible reality of it all. Doesn't make it right, but it sure as fuck makes it human.
Damn it, now Im torn.

i think he stole the mental picture of The Man out of my head.
Ignorant about what? It's the same type of person who does it. Even during the draft, the army was still largely voluntary. It's the same people who are reservists. Those who need extra money, extra opportunity that are willing to take a weekend a month to do the reservists gig.

The ditchdiggers, the factory line workers, part-timers, and other hourly-wage type of people.

It's not the professors, lawyers, doctors, and business executives who are doing this part time.

And yes, as I mentioned initially, it's a sweeping generalization, but the people who are doing this reserve thing or joining the army directly don't have the intelligence, class, or people skills of the broader population.

Yes, it's at the core of human nature to lash out, but those who have the intelligence, class, and peopel skills to realize that those actions are wrong, don't tend to join the army or reserves because they have better options.

"Left turn, Clyde!"

People who don't even possess the ability to change a tire on their own car, are exactly who should be defending this country! We need to reinstitute the draft, and get these folks where we need them most!

Because we know rich, smart, successful people don't do anything unethical/immoral/illegal/scandalous. We leave that to the blue collar po' folk like the ones in that Iraqi prison. Intelligence is not measured by social status and inversely social status is not measured by intelligence (or even hard work!), rather it tends to depend on one's wealth.

Considering the job of these guys over there is down and dirty, I'm not sure if they have a spot available for some bean counter enforcing the TPS Report cover memo.
