Big news coming from ESPN.com that Alonzo Mourning has agreed to a 4 year, $20 mil contract. The signing was the lynchpin that showed JKidd that the team was committed to winning and agreed to the max contract as well.

I like the Kidd deal, but I'm really don't think Zo will be able to contribute much. I estimate him really playing for 2 random years out of the 4, and we know how Byron Scott is with aging Georgetown centers coming off injuries. Then again, if all it took to keep Kidd was to throw some money at the center, seeing Zo contribute to the team at all would be a bonus in itself.

Here's the article
Quote:Free-agent center Alonzo Mourning plans to sign with the New Jersey Nets, apparently paving the way for Jason Kidd to re-sign in New Jersey, a league source who spoke with Mourning's agent Thursday night told Insider's Chad Ford.

Mourning could announce as early as today that he'll sign a 4-year, $20 million contract with the Nets.

Mourning's agent told the Insider source that Mourning agreed to sign with the Nets after receiving assurances that Kidd also will re-sign.

Kidd's agent, Jeff Schwartz, didn't return a phone call Friday morning seeking comment.

Mourning, who can't officially sign until July 16th, will be in Miami tonight at Zo's Summer Groove, his charity basketball game and dinner.

Mourning, 33, was diagnosed in October 2000 with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, a kidney disease that can eventually require a transplant. He played in just the final 13 games for the Heat in 2000-01, but appeared in 75 games the following season.

Last September, shortly before training camp, Mourning was advised by doctors to skip the 2002-03 season because test results indicated his condition had worsened.

He has since received medical clearance for 2003-04.
Advice for any team opposing Zo & the NJ Nets next season:

just give Zo one solid elbow to the kidneys whilst in the paint and VIOLA - no mo' Zo.
*note to self*

never reveal any weakness to 420.
Wait i thought it was a six year deal? I guess the article i read in todays paper had typo in it. Regardless, i think its a rediculous amount of money to pay someone for just 4 years. I'm a Nets fan so I'm happy he is resigning, but is a player really worth that much?

If you didnt know why the prices at Continental Arena are going up, ya do now i guess, huh? Lets just hope Mourning stays healthy this year so it wasn't a wasted signing.
I dont see the hype about Alonzo. Who knows if he can even play anymore? I dont even care if he cant. I hope hes forced to retire because of his stupid kidney injury. I never liked him especially when he was on Miami, those south coast fuckers.
