I thought the Yankees getting Armando Benitez was a questionable pickup, but this latest acquisition is mind-boggling.

Granted he was a good pitcher and may still be, but one has to ask why him and why now? The guy is 46 yrs. old for Christ's Sake. That is ancient in the world of sports.

Anyway, here is the link. Check out the picture of the 4 Degrees of Separation on that page. It's kinda funny when you think about it.

Jesse Orosco to the Yankees
the reason they got orosco was b/c they only had one other lefty in the bullpen (hammond) who is not doing that well. he only gonna face 2 batters a game so its not a big deal
That's fine, I understand the whole lefty specialist thing, but there wasn't one other guy out there they could have gotten instead?

Even if they only plan on keeping Orosco through this year, I would think they'd want someone better and more importantly younger so come trade time they could get more for them.
there probly was another guy out there and the yanks might pick him out before the deadline but i dont care cuz im a mets fans - yes let the bashing start. they suck and im already looking for to the knicks and rangers. thats how sad the mets have become

Same here. Big Grin
I honestly could care less that the Yankees picked up Benitez and Orosco. I was just curious as to why they would even want them specifically.

Lets not kid ourselves, the Yanks have the money to pick up half the free agents that will be available this coming offseason and they will, OK not all of them but you know. Anyway, this Orosco thing, is just like the Benitez deal, its only for the second half of this season and its only until they can pick up quality relievers in the offseason. Dont be too worried, Orosco isnt THAT bad and he isnt known to blow shit like Benitez. And even if he doesnt do tremendously good, he wont do tremendously bad. Yanks got nothing to lose with this deal.
i think they needed a good set up man since they lost mendoza and contrary to what most people think benitez is a very good closer but he gets a bad rap for blowing saves when the mets are making a playoff push. but i think jason anderson will become a very good player and can help in the mets rebuilding process .orosco has proven himself and probly doesnt cost that much and gives them a seond lefty in the bullpen.
Hahahahahahahaa!

They just said on Sportscenter that Orosco was late to the Yankee game tonight(at Yankee stadium) because he thought the game was in baltimore. Haha!

What a great first impression.

Yeah, that's probably the main reason they got Orosco and not someone else.
This quote is directly from that article.

Quote: This deal will not cost the Yankees a lot. They will pay just $111,475 to Orosco -- a prorated share of the $300,000 minimum -- with the last-place Padres paying the remainder of his $800,000 salary.

I guess you really can't go wrong there and considering the Yankees have all the money in the world it probably doesn't matter to them if they get anything in exchange for him come trade time.
