All right. Alive IV has been delayed for a long time. In fact, one of the main problems about Alive IV was that Gene and Ace were arguing about money, surprise surprise.

So this is KISS with Peter Criss but w/o Ace Frehley, but Tommy Thayer in Ace's makeup.

So here's the deal. It's a two-disc set, recorded in Melbourne, Australia. It's a conceptual album, basically the same idea as Metallica's "S&M" album from a few years ago.

The first six songs are KISS only. It's OK.

The next six songs are the best tracks, as its' KISS' ballads with a "symphony ensemble" behind them. Beth and Forever sound REALLY good with the orchestral arrangements behind them.

The second disc is where the clusterfuck begins.

The ENTIRE Melbourne symphony orchestra comes out, and it's just too much noise. Nothing works, because the ochestra is fighting with the guitars and drums, and it's just a mishmosh of garbage. There's no distinct sound to it, which is a damn shame.

Personally, if they had scaled this back, and either 1) went acoustic with the orchestra backing them OR 2) had a better mix, it might have worked a little better.

So I can reccomend the first disc... the second disc... not so much.

I'll buy it cause I'm a Kiss fan, huge Kiss fan, but if you're saying it's like the trainwreck known as S n M I will probably only listen to it one time and put it away somewhere. Alive 4 if I'm not mistaken was supposed to be stuff from the Farewell tour and a few thing from the first reunion tour. Thanx for the heads up.

I never liked KISS. I always thought they sucked and we're way overrated. The only thing that made them big was their make up. Their music is mediocre at best. Think about this, if they didnt look like they did and were judged soley on their music, would they have amounted to anything? Put your nostalgic feelings aside and judge honestly. They have 3 maybe 4 good songs, at best.

They actually have a lot of good songs that were never released as singles. I could list them but it would take a while. But the concept album Music from the Elder was probably one of their biggest mistakes. Also since Ace isn't touring with them and they have defiled his character by putting Tommy Thayer in his makeup and costume I refuse to see them.

i have to agree with rooner on KISS. i never liked one of their songs and always saw them a merchandise whores who want a lot of money.

Mr Simmons is a marketing whore, he would sell his own stool if he thought he could make a profit.

Kiss is like Hulk Hogan. They were big a long time ago, went away, you were happy and cheering when he came back, and then you're like, "why are you still here?"
