I beg to differ. he was the first pit bull registered with the UKC.

Also, there were two Pete the Pups, the original one, the ring around his eye was a NATURAL marking. The second, they painted the ring around his eye.

It's the AKC and a Staffordshire Terrier is NOT a Pit Bull you momo.

Oops, damn it, here. I meant first dual registered Pit/Staff.

http://www.realpitbull.com/history.html

Later, those who wished to distance themselves from the fighting aspect of the breed petitioned the American Kennel Club for recognition of the Pit Bull so that it would be eligible for dog shows and other performance events. The AKC conceded in 1936 but only under the stipulation that the dogs registered with them be called "Staffordshire Terriers", the name of the province in England the breed supposedly originated in. Upon acceptance of the breed, many people dual-registered their dogs with both the AKC and the UKC. Lucenay's Peter (the dog that starred in the Our Gang series) was the first dual-registered Pit Bull/Staffordshire Terrier.

But you are correct that Staffs and Pits arent the same, they were at one time, but they are two dinstinct breeds as of now.

Yes, and at one time bull dogs were leggy and large.........

but I will concede your point..

Ken, if you read the article, it does say "UKC". Rooner knows his dog stuff (I almost put "dog shit" -- but that wouldn't have sounded right. Smile )

They still are. There is a rare breed American bull dog that is quite a large dog.
