I bought St. Anger the day it came out.

What they did regarding Napster is one thing, what they write/create is another. I separate the two.

Some of you "fans" out there didn't seperate the two thus the lackluster sales...if you want to call 2 million units sold "lackluster".

Record sales are pointless they still make a cleaning in concert sales and merchandise don't they? And that's all that matters when it comes to lining their wallets.

No.

I friend bought me Load. I felt it was a load of shit, only worthy for Strip clubs. I felt that there music changed and that they could no longer produce at the level they once had. Reload and Load in your face came out and I heard no resounding response that these were good albums, so I had no interest to buy them. So, I used Napster to find a few obscure songs, like "Blow Me" and "I'd rather have a bottle in front of me", when Metallica felt that the reason their sales were down was not because they tarnished their reputation, but rather that their "fans" are obligated to buy their music and that they must be getting it for free instead.

On the other hand, Iron Maiden's Brave New World came out and fans said it was the greatest album since 7th Son (Not a tremendous feat) and that they are playing like they did in the 80's. They did, I bought, I went to 2 concerts, their reputation has been restored.

Crowley, that was an utterly weak ass retort.

Sloats - I bought both Load and Reload myself. First Metallica albums where I actually skip tracks. Blasphemous, IMO. But still, songs like "Bleeding Me" "Outlaw Torn"...these are vintage Metallica.

I had reservations about hearing anything else from them, nervous even, fearing that the newest album would possess more suckiness than the Loads.

Then I heard the St. Anger single, the title track.

It kicked my ass.

I bought the album. It kicked my ass some more. I accept what Metallica sounds like today because its what Metallica sounds like TODAY.

If I wanted to hear Master or Justice, I'd put those albums on.

Besides, have you seen Metallica live at all lately? They'd kick Maiden's ass I'm sure.

You also have to understand that Maiden never attacked their fans.

I bought Reload used a while back. I still have yet to listen to the entire album. It's now collecting dust.

I haven't bought anything related to metallica since someone stole my albums all of them through the black one. Friggin bastard.

I hear ya, I do. Like I said, I seperate what Metallica creates away from whatever Lars was yapping about.

To me, Metallica is the only band I grew up actually worshipping. They are to me what Ozzy is to Norton.

Of course, St Anger is not their greatest work of all time but still, there are vintage Metallica moments all over that album, just with a more raw and dirty sound.

Master, Justice...aggression with precision in it's execution.

Anger has that same anger without that meticulous precision in execution...I don't mind it because the Metallica vibe is still there - in greater doses than what Load & Reload offered.

Thats why I can defend St. Anger...

And as far as the whole battle with Napster, I can only agree with them on one point - artists deserve to be compensated for their work. PERIOD.

If you worked at a lumbar yard and sold wood but you had some trees planted out front, do I have the right to chop down your trees instead and avoid paying for your lumber?

There's a reason why we can go around and just take our own wood from anywhere, right? Same thing with music.

Just because you can (download) doesn't mean that you should. If the band doesn't care that you do, fine, go right ahead and enjoy the tunes but...don't lash out against the bands/musicians that say "HEY!! thats my music you're taking for free! WTF?!"

For example, A Perfect Circle specifically asks in their newest album that you do not share thie rmusic via the net, that you go out and but it. As a fan, I respect thier wishes and refuse to download any Perfect Circle song.

Then again, I'm a musician...so I'm biased regarding this issue.

Artist earn their living from Tours, record companys earn their living through record sales. But also remember, oh you can't, that record companies PROMISED us that Cd would cost less than cassette tapes because they cost less to make.

They lied to us, they have constantly overcharged us, we just took the silverware home (analogy to if you have gone to an expensive resturant with poor service and poor food, so you end up taking the silverware home)>
