Interesting - Rooner - 04-13-2004 You may have seen this. Here is a math trick so unbelievable that it will stump you. Personally I would like to know who came up with this and why that person is not running the country. 1. Grab a calculator. (you won't be able to do this one in your head) 2. Key in the first three digits of your phone number (NOT the area code) 3. Multiply by 80 4. Add 1 5. Multiply by 250 6. Add the last 4 digits of your phone number 7. Add the last 4 digits of your phone number again. 8. Subtract 250 9. Divide number by 2 Do you recognize the answer? Interesting - Sloats - 04-13-2004 x = 3 digit y = 4 digit [(80 x + 1) * 250 + y + y -250] / 2 (80 x + 1) * 125 + 1/2 y + 1/2 y -125 80 * 125 * x +125 + y -125 10000 * x + y What's the number supposed to be again? Interesting - header - 04-13-2004 I think the mistake being made is to think that anyone is in awe that after plugging in partial portions of their phone numbers into an equation that the resulting answer is their entire phone number. Interesting - Rooner - 04-13-2004 I hate algebra. Interesting - 60FeetUnderWater - 04-13-2004 so do I. and THAT is why I think this thread (and the activity prescribed within) is kaka-poopoo. I did initially wonder at how such an equation was discoverd but then I stopped caring after a few seconds or so. Because math stinks. Always has, always will. I hate you mathematics. Die. |
