So I've tried...

-honey brown
-a cup of water
-a plastic bag (I have no brown paper)
-a spoonful of sugar (2 actually, since the first tasted so good)
-scaring myself (randomly pretending something is behind me, though I know full well nothing is, which is why this hasn't worked)

Yet I still have hiccups. I've even tried pounding on my chest a few times, though I'm not sure why, or what this would really accomplish. So, any suggestions?

Of course, by the time anybody responds I'd have long shook these hiccups, marking any suggestions as completely meaningless. But, such is life...

Generally, breathing deeply and regularly helps. They are a spasm of the diaphragm, so that helps to regulate it.

Or, you can have someone ask you, "What swims in the ocean?" To which your reply (automatically, of course) would be, "Fish".

That actually works. Don't know why, but it does.

As SweetAngel pointed out, hiccups are an involuntary spasm of your diaphram. It is primarily caused by an abnormality in oxygen intake. If you can burp voluntarily, it will relieve some of the pressure causing your diaphram to spasm and thereby relieve your hiccups.

If that doesn't work, you need to intake more oxygen while relaxing your diaphram. The best way to do this is to lie down and relax your body. As you relax, take deep breathes through your nose and blow out slowly through your mouth. Do this 10-12 times and with each breathe, hold it for 2 more seconds (2,4,6,8,10, etc....). Within a minute or two your hiccups should be gone. The key is to relax your entire body (lying down is preferable) and take very deep breathes.

Good luck.
