OK, I see, it's the sex. We desire to abduct these girls, lock them in the basement, and repeatedly violate them or maybe wish we could have 'saved' them from the lifestyle that got them abducted and spend our live porking them. So it's the old Heather's quote: "Why did You have to waste such a prime piece of snatch."

They claimed that Chandra Levy was sexy? Bah. JoBenet Ramsey, ok... I can see that, her parents pimped her out in stripper outfits. Yeah, and this new prego isn't going to get too much coverage because she is not even 1/10 as sexy as Lacy Peterson.

Just to be fair, I don't think it always breaks down into actual sex per se... the MSNBC article refers to stories that are "sexy" and "sensentional".

But let's face it: young, white females of middle, upper-middle, or wealthy status are viewed as the pinnacle of acquisitions by older, successful white men... the majority of whom own or operate the newsrooms and stations. So for something horrible (rape, murder, kidnapping, etc.) to occur to one of those women is seen as a grave injustice in need of a resolution. Better yet, run the story ad nauseum so that other young, white women learn what not to do, to better protect themselves from those who would do them ill.

The poor, the elderly and/or infirm, those of color who are raped/killed/kidnapped? Sure, they're important, too. Just not as important, and maybe in some circles, folks would be more inclined to still say, "Good riddance". Such is the way of the world, as it has been for quite some time. To think otherwise is to be naive.

So, what Brain needs to do is kidnap a extremely sexy black chick or Denzel Washington.....
